Ahh, it's because you don't need an ASIC at Bankstown that they got away with it. :E
Good point though IM. Same thing could have happened anywhere. ASICs are not the issue here though airrcraft security however is.

Acts like this are good ammo to reinforce the Dept's position that aircraft security is a necessary imposition. Standby for increased surveillance of your aircraft locking devices at ALL airports - ASICs required or not.

He lodged a flight plan?

well Im not a detective, but didnt they go the airport on the plan and see if the chopper was there?

or how about the name on the plan? dear me...

... Fair point Islander. short of putting an armed police officer in the seat of every parked aircraft, you arent going to stop this sort of thing happening. Rare as it may be. How can they stop this from happening?

Im pretty sure that anyone who wants to steal a plane/chopper/ultralight or ANYTHING will be smart enough to bring bolt cutters with them.

Gates and fences? how many airports have a fence the surrounds the entire airport, that cant be passed easily? how many GA gates are left unlocked? or with a code that every passenger can read as they leave with the pilot?

ASICs? well theres a no brainer..

Security Camera? yeah.... hey look bob. some guy in a pilot uniform is opening the door of that aircarft. Better call the police..
hey bob look now, what appears to be a student is trying to open the door on that C150, better call the police?

And why is this good ammo Islander Jock

If johny the terorrist wants an aircraft - just take the ASIC wearing pilots family hostage... you then have an aircraft, a train, a ferry boat, a whatever....

The owner's name is in the article - you can look the rego up in the CASA register.

The chopper has been recovered at Taree airport but no sign of the person(s) responsible.
