Funny article in the Grauniad today. "Feeble government lets the superclass soar over the rest of us" at http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/may/04/globaleconomy.economy

Among other things it says that "A Gulfstream carries a mere eight passengers in extraordinary opulence; reclining leather armchairs, polished wood panelling and the latest high definition TV. They cost $45m each and $1.25m to service for each 500 hours in the air, so their buyers are, by definition, very rich. Over the past 20 years, Gulfstream sales have followed the booming fortunes of the superclass."

Extraordinary opulence? Maybe I have been unlucky but I don't recall flying in any Gulfstream that was comparable comfort wise with a bog standard business class. And the article seems to ignore the many businesses that use biz jets just as a practical way to save time and money, without any hint of opulence. Is there really a superrich plutocrat inside every Gulfstream?

The article includes space for comments and I hope that they will be plentiful!

I read the article as being more about the class of person likely to be found in a Gulfstream than the aircraft itself.

As to the article, mostly a re-write of someone else's work and with regard to the comments, it is the usual paranoia to be expected.

I think "The Guardian" has been too long in London, about time it returned to being "The Manchester Guardian" and stopped being influenced by them poncy Londoners.:ok:
