A very long shot here, but would anyone know the registration of the Olley Air Services Dh 89 Dragon Rapide that flew the Spanish dictator Franco from the Canary Islands to Africa in July 1936???

I'll dig out my library & rvt. 'twas Cecil Bebb who was the Capt, I worked along side him in BUA back in 1964. He & Doc Papadopoulos (he flew for the other side) sat opposite each other in BUA.

How about G-ACYR, having read about this elsewhere, 1936 from Canary Islands to Morocco !
I have "borrowed" this photo from Galdri's supurb collection at "plane talk web", it is in Museo del Aire, Madrid.

Merlinxx - thanks for the info and Norwich that is the very one. I had no idea it would still be in existence. I looked up the museum and will have to pay a visit some time.
Many Thanks

There's a good bit written about this flight in the book "Croydon Airport The Great Days 1928-39", published by Borough of Sutton Libraries; the library still has, I believe, copies in stock for sale. Pages 177-180 are devoted to the flight.

The book includes the complete flying programme for the Olley fleet for the week in question; no detailed ops programme, it is just a photocopy of the relevant page from Gordon Olley's secretary's diary for the week, which contains all the detail including the Spanish flight. They were simpler days !
