In Fridays Australian Pelair were advertising were advertising for Westwind Pilots for Perth and Darwin, what runs are done out of Perth by Pelair?

Likewise they were advertising for Metro and Saab 340 Captains and co-pilots.

When do the Saabs start and do they slowly replace the Metro's and Braz?

I was in the Brissy office yesterday and there was a painting of a 747 (yay!) on the wall. I asked when we were getting them and they said next month.

Not sure if that's true or not though.

Actually more interested in what runs the Westwind does out of Perth?
As I thought they closed the Perth base when they closed down Qwestair in the mid 90's.

Hello All,

If you want a good fun job with Pelair see if you can get into their Nowra opps.
I spent some time there recently in the Lear with the 'hard points'

Fun flying if you dont mind getting shot at!

shame high ego's are a prerequisite for a fun job.:bored:

The 35 is a great ship agile yet sedate & quite easy to fly but what's fast military jet jocks got to do with it?

I think they want to know that you have done it before they let you loose to have that much fun all over again but at better pay rates.:ok:

sounds like my type of job 'plovett'':ok: Remember tho not a single pilot was born with any skills, ego bragging military ones as well. We ALL learn right from scratch. Pelair just want those that have done it b4 'cause it's cheaper for them not to have to have the normal pilost trained up!:)

Hey All,

The ex mill comes into play with low level 'sim attack' on ships and running away from Hornets up at Willy and the rest of the country when the big training opps are on.

There is Guy flying those tow target jets in Nowra with bare Cpl ( when he started ) Im ex defence myself and have met the guy. He was one of two bare CPL holders that Pelair put on .Chatting with Pelairs Head Engineer a few weeks back and word is that Pelair has Regreted it since. Out of the two they let one go cause he could not fly a kite . And this guy in Nowra is apparently pretty good and an assett to them .

Those tow Targets are streamed 3miles behind the Jet ( knowing from experiance ) the jet is long gone before you even see the target. ( being shot at is a far cry )
SM1 firings are done with UAVs and at worst a 76mm or a 50cal round will pass with in 3miles from you (wow) . The most dangeroues thing that has happened with target towing was when a 50 cal round hit the cable and the target when through the Hanger Door on Hmas Darwin around 2000.

MattAA, you obviously weren't around when the Japanese managed to shoot down an A6 whilst target towing! Same long line target setup, lucky the crew had ejection seats.

Ahhhh Sooo Sorry!

Hello MattAA,

"If you don't mind getting shot at" is a direct quote from G.P.

The Nice old gentleman from over in the target shed said they use 1000m, 2000m, and 3000m leads on the targets and when the Navy use their "controlled machine guns the target gets busted every time."
"for low level machine gun they dont use 3000m of cable!"
Any way you spin it the tow plane and target is in frount of the firing line.

So far the only thing that has been shot at me is a radar gun, apparently I am not even worth the effort of targeting with a laser.

Cheers,
Solocmv.

I guess the machines I fly these days would have a more interesting "Nokia effect" but as I no longer use a Nokia....

This was taken around lunchtime one day in a 402B heading north back across Bass Strait towards home (at the time - Western Qld).

Yesterday's advanced new generation regional airline equipment, today's new night frieghter!

Was EKT the first Saab for Kendall's?

Just wait another 23 years and Pelair will be rolling the A380 Frieghter.

There is one sitting in Adelaide. Got a look inside it the other day. Heaps of room inside with a roller floor.

Yes it does have TCAS and most of the A models Pel-Air are getting have the trimble GPS, so no FMS, but there may be one or two that do have the Universal FMS fitted.

Happy to be corrected though! :ok:

The SAAB conversions must be getting along - I have seen one today - aircraft at YSSY with all the windows painted over and its an old "a" series machine - with an ex-Rex rego.

Better than in the SA227 fleet where the GPSs (Garmin 100s) have been disconnected. Raw data for all. Happy days ;)

Pel Air have their first SAAB 340A online now, with the second undergoing freight conversion (saw it myself). From the flight deck point of the view it is essentially untouched from when it was flying with REX so it's got all the gear (Terrain Awareness, TCAS ect) and unfortunately as per most of the other A models in the REX group fleet it has a Trimble 2101 GPS. Pain in the backside to use but it gets you around (not approved for RNAV GNSS approach though). Where are they advertising crew bases?

How many Saabs are Pel-Air getting? How many will be based in SYD vs. MKY?

Triple,

as an ex employee, I spoke to people still there the other day, and was told that things are slower than ever and Pel air have recently lost alot of work for various reasons. No jobs going at the moment, and as far as I know current Saab ground school is made up of metro crews converting over. I am not sure if the Mackay Saab spots are filled yet or if a saab will be based there at all.

Interesting?

Apparently the EX Macair Osbourne mine charters have been keeping most of the qualified Pelair SAAB drivers busy. To the detriment of the 340A night frieght, or so I heard.

I would have thought that this may have created at least a small measure of demand, except for the fact that some EX REX captains that departed to SAW may now be on the lookout for some DEC positions. Anyone heard anything.

As usual it's all about timing Tripple Cap'
