I am going to a selection day an a few weeks and a friend has recommended that I get hold of some aptitude test training software however I am not sure which to get. I have looked on the web and it is extortionately expensive from some sites (over £100!).

Can anybody recommend particular software (I’m off to CTC)?

If you have this software could you message me?

Thanks,
Tin

I downloaded the Pilapt test from Pilapt-prep.co.uk to prepare for stage 2/3. It is the most badly written software I have ever used, definitely not worth £25, however in the 'concentration' test at CTC I felt it helped having seen the format beforehand.

You have 2 ways of looking at this.

First is if you are going for CTC, the £60,000 loan will make the pilapt tests a drop in the ocean. Paying £20, £50 or £100 is worth every penny if it helps you to pass.

Second is that the software is overpriced, and if you have the aptitude you will pass without need for practice.

Make your decision, there are lots of people that will try to sway you one way or the other.

I didnt have any software, had a look at the pictures on the PILAPT website just to have an idea of what it looks like.

I also had a look at what Kerosine had downloaded but i didnt actually use it and still passed the aptitude. Its been said before that they are looking for the ability to improve. You get three goes on most of the activities so its not hard to get better.

They are fairly straightforward excercises that dont need prior preparation. But if its only £25 and would make you feel more confident then i guess its worth it.

I used Pilapt-prep to get me through my CTC stage 2 (a distant memory now) and it was definitely worth it. cockpitweb is almost double the price and even that gets bought! Have to say though both software are not terribly professional looking but thats probably because they are made by pilots and not professional software development companies!

I totally agree with that, Kerosine. That was my impression too.

Hi Guys and Girls,

I was wondering if any of you had used the training software provided by cockpitweb (www.cockpitweb.com). I am sprucing up on the old maths and the numerapt tests and Pilapt software seem like just the thing to be practising for an up and coming CTC assessment.

Has anybody who has used this software found it useful? beneficial? or is it rubbish and a waste of money and should be avoided?

Best

I have used www.aviac.com to prepare for all other aptitude tests..

As for the hand to eye coordination tests - I have used IPAS - a free tool from EPST -

I personally would not spend 80 odd quid for those tests....

I emailed the guys at http://www.pilapt-prep.co.uk/, asking if their software works on Vista. Haven't got a reply yet. But there shouldn't be any problems running it on a vista computer? Anyone who knows?
