Well, don't know where you got this rumour from but from the inside, I certainly haven't heard about this at all. Secondly, the 747 is leased from Air Atlanta only for the Hajj operations. Being a low cost carrier, we are told expansion in the future would be for that market and that kind of operations, ie, NG737's possibily. Air Asia is not out to compete with MAS with 747's to go long haul. For now that is. Hope this helps.

Basically Air Atlanta has been offering to base a couple of 747's here permanantly (with flight crew) to enable Air Asia use of them for charter services. Don't know to where but China has been mentioned as a potential destination. However nothing has been decided as the main concern and focus right now is the core business of the low cost carrier and the 737's, plus the shift to KLIA of all operations.

Gypsy, the only real big main airline transport business here is either MAS and Air Asia and though they are different in operations if you wanna compare salary directly, Captains here overall do not get as much as they would in MAS. But it is not significantly lower and for the average industry here in Malaysia, yes it is a good enough deal and above average.
