Does anyone know if it is possible to fly commercially in India with a JAR licence with a PIO card? Or is that a no-no with the new government rules on expats...

its a NO NO .. You would need to convert your licences first

Same answer. PIO/OCI not that much different. With full fledged Indians waiting in the wings, I would reckon a tough task getting a break now. But nevertheless, you will have to convert your license and you will be hired on local terms.
