Just stepped out into garden after hearing a very strange noise coming from what looked to be a A320 or A321 (May have been First Choice). This was about 4-5000ft heading east towards Manchester. The engine noise was very loud considering it was on decent. Could have and stress could have been on 1 engine (increased thrust) hence the extra noise. Any ideas???? No i know what an aircraft sounds like in decent hence why im asking this question.
If im wrong im sorry but just seemed very strange to me.

There can be some quite loud noise, when heard from the ground, if slats are being lowered, I believe. Can be easily mistaken for engine noise.

Maybe that was it.

Maybe it's just an unusual aircraft in the fleet.

There was a post on here some time ago which said that Jet 2 has a 757 in it's fleet which sounds rougher than their others - though this is normally more noticeable at higher thrusts I would guess.

A First Choice A320 was doing some circuits around the Irish Sea this afternoon from 20000 up to 40000ft. I suspect that was your machine. Last I saw he headed back down towards Manchester area in decent. It was G-OOPP, which I suspect is not long out of the garage with a new reg on.

considering it was on decent

towards Manchester area in decent

Had trouble understanding this at first. Presume you meant descent, which is a decent way to spell it:ok:

I heard it as well in Warrington, but did not look. Sounded like P&W JT8's to me....

A friend of mine from Wallasey spoke to me about this, said it did not sound 'right' at all. Other people around also looking up wondering...

Intrigued now!

May have been a bit below assigned alt and applied a bit of thrust to recover...
