Be interesting to see what will be siphoned out of the NT Treasury jam tin in order for this to go ahead?

NT Election definitely around the corner....:hmm:

Will be interesting.... Darwin has been reported as the city with the highest rents in the nation and I understand the availability of what one might call suitable housing is somewhat limited without paying BIG bucks!

Wonder if J* will provide a housing allowance ???:hmm::hmm:

I wish they would piss off out of Darwin bring back QF with a nice J class seat, bottle of red, movie and service, especially on the international flights.
Darwin Singapore has gone from QF 747 to Tiger and Jetstar bogan airlines.:yuk::yuk: cheap, and get what you pay for:yuk:

Low cost airlines suit the passenger demographics of Darwin, ie ferals ;) For most Darwinites wine in bottles would be a new thing, most of them think it comes in 5 litre cardboard packages.

The number of people in Darwin who would appreciate and be willing to pay for a good airline service simply isn't high enough to justify one. :E

Hey you hurt my feelings I live in Darwin. But you are right, GENERALLY you won't find many Darwinians willing to pay for extra service. However if you check out the terminal between 12am and 2am the terminal it is packed, it is pretty much the only time the airlines fly................:ugh:

The suits from the south can't handle Darwin. They are too busy with their bankrupt banks, insider trading etc. down south.
Darwin will grow rapidly and become the most important city in Australia. It will be serviced fron Asia.

Well then, with all that land they have, they should get to it and build a proper terminal and extend, widen and light 18/36. Will save the city doing a Sydney.

G'day all,

I have just moved to Perth from Darwin, but not because I hated the place, I loved it! Just time for a change!

Man, some people have a strange outdated views of Darwin. Gone are the days of Backward Pubs and the patronage alike. It's funny, in my 5 years of living "up north" I really never saw any of what "Southern people" said I would see. Sure there is a small demographic of people out to make you day unpleasant but all in all I found it to be a secret jewel in the crown.

Fantastic Restaurants, fantastic Bars, Fantastic people, amazing fishing, wonderful houses, and room to breath!

Sure it has it's real "working class type" Pubs still out in the boondocks but hell, where are all the topless barmaids meant to work!!?

No, seriously house prices are on the rise big time. We bought our house for $150k in 03, sold for $380k in 06. Rentals are almost non-existent but if you look you will find a nice one, we rented for a year 350 P/w v large two bedroom new townhouse both with en-suites a fantastic place and in Stuart park (5 Min's from city) Staggering!:yuk:

I think anyone who would like to work there will have a huge surprise if they have not visited Darwin before......it's great....just don't go swimming anywhere!

Pilots aside, Darwin residents have the highest level of education in the country. Fact
If you want to see a bunch of wierd people, take a walk down the mall in Hay st Perth or if your game, North Bridge, its like being on another planet. Adelaide isn't much better. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have their areas.
Try getting a J class seat on QF out of Darwin, you can't. That must be because no one wants to travel J class and drink the bottled wine.

Most if not all the ferals in Darwin arrive and leave in Metros. (and JetStar)
Metro man, maybe its the crowd you hang around with?? :ooh:

20% of people in the Northern Territory have a drinking problem. Fact

Walk around the town centre and you WILL be accosted by drunken aboriginals begging for money or smokes. In this respect Cairns is far better at keeping them away from visitors.

Nice place in winter with the Mindal beach market and pleasant climate. Summer not so great with the heat, humidity and cyclones.

With the arrival of the low cost airlines the Darwin feral is now in a position to travel. Easily spotted in the Budget terminal in Singapore. Typically unshaven, dressed in a singlet/flannelette shirt, tracksuit bottoms/shorts and cheap sandals. Males similar.

Acceptable if you can take the climate year round and isolation from civilisation. Good Asian food in the weekend markets, a few decent pubs, Cassurina shopping centre has a nice variety of shops.

Liveable for a year or two especially if it's a first jet job on a B717. After that I'd be looking at a move to Perth or Brisbane. ;)

I hope when you leave its on jetstar next to a feral heading back home to Perth or Brisbane etc.
Jetstar has allowed the ferals to travel over their entire network, its not limited to Darwin. Melbourne and Sudney have more ferals than the entire NT, the problem being they can travel now and we have to sit with them. Like I said piss off jetstar and bring back QF.
Have you actually seen a cyclone in Darwin??
What F$%^n cyclones? The last significant one was around 30yrs ago. There has been a couple of windy days and nights, but no more than the southern cities see every year.

I take it you haven't spent much time in Cairns.
My last trip there (last week) the waiters had to chase a "begger" away from the tables drooling and begging for money, beer or smokes. That is NOT uncommon.

Try sitting outside in North bridge (Perth), even the newspapers report the locals not just begging, but spitting at patrons who won't give in and offer them money.

Drinking isn't a problem, its a past time. i note you frequent the odd decent pub.

Mate Perth isn't close the the arsehole of the world, its located within.

The worst part about Darwin is the group of Rsoles that move here and then whinge like a bunch of little old ladies about how bad it is. (the world owes me a living and that living should be at the place of my chosing :oh:) F Off is the answer and leave us to it. we won't mind.

I guess that puts an end to the discussion. You have so very eloquently put what I just could NOT get out elegantly without being seen as one of them ferrals'!

Sorry guys, maybe I take a little offence because I am a track suit wearing feral. BUT Ray bans, leather jacket wearing shopping centre tossers like Metro Man just give me the "Feral" ****s.

I hope to christ your not currently a 717 F/O, if you are i will find out.

Just get in your BM and piss off back to your shopping centre down south. i think the Darwin population have spoken.
F/Off:E

Voice, I am not one of the educated I mentioned.:O:O but you know that!:p

I think Metro Man flies an airbus and lives in Singapore (from the last line the Airlink mafia are after you mate).

I've lived in Darwin, Perth and Cairns and find the vagrants and long grass fraternity around the Smith St Mall easily the worst.

Good Asian food in the weekend markets, a few decent pubs, Casuarina shopping centre has a nice variety of shops.
Metro Man all true, particularly the Asian food. The high end pubs were no different to anywhere else (eg Rorke's etc) in this country. Casuarina shopping centre (the clientele) stank like no other on a hot arvo in the build up - ever caught a bus to the shopping centre(?)- a stench that challenges the hardiest of iron stomachs. Other than the Asian tucker and the quality of the strippers not much else calls me back (I can fish AND SWIM AND DIVE in QLD).

Ah RENURPP my dear old friend, we cross swords yet again (last year, pilots salaries Australia vs overseas).

I'm not on the B717 but even if I was I wouldn't be in the least bit concerned about flying with you, you aren't even in the same league as some of the tossers I've flown with in the past. Water off a ducks back ;)

After a number of years in Australian GA I'm hardly in a position to afford a BMW at the moment though I do enjoy an occasional day out with lunch at a decent shopping centre. Leather jacket, Ray Bans ? What's wrong with that. I take it you buy all your clothes at Best and Less or Lowes.

I don't live in Darwin but have visited many times, I could live there for the right job but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Now put on your best flanelette shirt, get into your XF Falcon and head down to the RSL for your $4.99 Sunday dinner.:E
