ALLIED PILOTS ASSOCIATION REACHES OUT TO CORPORATE CLIENTS, INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS AND PASSENGERS TO “HELP US FIX AMERICAN AIRLINES”

Fort Worth, Texas (April 15, 2008)—Members of the Allied Pilots Association (APA), collective bargaining agent for the 12,000 pilots of American Airlines (NYSE: AMR), convened today in nine U.S. cities and London to voice concerns over the airline’s reliability.

APA members positioned themselves with informational signs and leaflets near the headquarters entrances of some of the airline’s most prominent corporate clients and institutional investors, including Fidelity Investments, The Staubach Company, Anheuser-Busch, Citigroup, Carnival Cruise Line, Glaxo SmithKline, Wells Fargo Bank and Taco Bell. In all, the pilots delivered APA’s message to 14 of American Airlines’ largest clients and shareholders in 10 markets on two continents. The pilots also delivered the union’s message to travelers at major airports across the U.S. and to American Airlines employees arriving for work.

“Last year, American Airlines ranked worst in on-time performance among network carriers. More than 250,000 of our flights ran late or were cancelled altogether,” said APA President Captain Lloyd Hill. “By any reasonable standard, American Airlines is failing its customers by costing them valuable time and money. In turn, this poor performance is having a negative effect on the value of our shareholders’ investment.”

Hill also pointed out that American Airlines consistently ranks below average in customer satisfaction surveys.

“Our airline doesn’t have enough workers to run dependably and doesn’t keep enough spare parts to ensure prompt repairs,” he said. “It’s clear that American Airlines management needs to reinvest in our airline, and do so quickly.

“Our careers and the continued loyalty of our customers depend upon it.”

As part of delivering its message, APA ran related advertisements in the April 10 and April 14 editions of USA Today and on a billboard near the entrance to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. In these advertisements, the union is asking American Airlines’ customers to visit www.TellYourAAStory.com (http://www.tellyouraastory.com/) to share their experiences with the airline and how to fix it.

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association—the largest independent pilot union in the U.S.—is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 12,000 pilots of American Airlines, including 2,218 pilots on furlough. The furloughs began shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Also, several hundred American Airlines pilots are on full-time military leave of absence serving in the armed forces. The union’s Web site address is www.alliedpilots.org (http://www.alliedpilots.org/).

American Airlines is the nation’s largest passenger carrier and fifth-largest cargo carrier.

Pleasure. Well someone has got to stand up for our customers rights and it isn't going to be these management pirates, it's right to go over their heads and petition the investors.

Unions have been demonised for years but what is wrong with aspiring to work for a company that provides good service, decent pay, good working hours and career opportunity? And I wonder who is behind the demonising? Thanks for the 40% pay cut everyone, $350M bonus for me hearty shipmates.

Fully behind the APA, thanks for your considerable support for BALPA.

Nice one guys. I agree with petitioning your shareholders directly if the company's not doing anything. It's your right to...

Good luck boys, it was the least we could do after several of your guys showed up at our rally at LHR recently. It was just a shame we couldn't wear our uniform at yours.

Well done.
Perhaps I'm late in the call here. But let the travel trade know what your doing too. We're responsible through the many methods of booking for putting passengers on a/c or not as the case may be.
If something like this is happening again some of us would love to know.

Sincerely,
Shamrogue
