Verapamil

Had my class 1 medical suspended last December. Due to the condition I have been diagnosed with the CAA and my neurologist want me to go on a drug called verapamil with 2 months monitoring before re-certification can be reconsidered. I would be interested to hear from any pilots out there that currently take this drug with there feedback.

I switched from Metoprolol to Verapamil a few months ago. No side affects and good results. Still flying and never lost my Cat 1.

Verapamil is a "calcium channel blocker" used increasingly to treat high blood pressure, amongst other conditions. It's usually seems to be tolerated well.

I should imagine the authorities would be more interested in your underlying condition, rather than the drug itself.

Entirely agree with that. Verapamil is acceptable for treatment of hypertension in pilots, even commercials and Class 1's.

But why would that be being treated by a neurologist ? Is the
"underlying condition" NOT hypertension, I'm wondering ?
