Word just released. Attorney General Dept who run Auscheck are planning to raise the fee from $86.00 to $90.00 for a new application and from $76.00 to $81.00 for a renewal.

You'll need to chuck in a couple of extra gold coins for your next card issue/re-issue.

I'm off to grab some beer and chips and sit back and watch this thread. :E

Just edited the post slightly to clarify that it is proposed only at this stage. Which means unless there is an overwhelming bitch and scream about it, they will quietly slip it in.

Jock.........you are a trouble maker! :=

Buster.......you crack me up!

For all the money I have spent, and the rest of you too, I share with you "off the record" that yesterday I visited Toowoomba and Bundaberg, let people through gates and all.......and I had left my ASIC in the car :ooh:. Who was going to protect us?:{

So much for TWB being a SECURE AIPORT, the gate I used was not even lockable, nor was the terminal. What a Joke! The whole system that is!

Was a nice lightning show on the way home though!

Hey Jaba, I don't make the rules... I'm just one of the many schmucks at the coal face who have to do the Dept's dirty work for them.

I wrote to my Local Member requesting him to ask the Minister Albanese why ASIC is 2 years and MSIC 5 years, his response

"The secure areas of security controlled airports have been assessed as being at greater risk of unlawful acts than the maritime areas covered by MSIC legislation"

" Having an ASIC valid for 2 years, as opposed to an MSIC which is valid for 5 years, allows for more frequent background checking of the people accessing these vulnerable areas and reflects the different risk environments."

" More frequent background checking of ASIC applicants ensures that any convictions for offences which are considered to be aviation security relevant are more closely monitored, in accordance with access to a security retsricted area"

What a load of cr*p, well done Tony er sorry Anthony. I also bought up the urgent requirement for the Runway upgrade at Gladstone and guess what. the State Govt. should do that because they get the GST.
The Qld Govt. won't do it, they'll want it sold like Mackay and Cairns(today
He then had the hide to finish with

" I acknowledge the importance of the aviation industry to Australia and more broadly to the national economy. However,it is expected that the Government in conjunction with the industry will continue to deliver, and further strengthen, safety and security for all Australians"
Doesn't it make you feel safe in your beds at night. The circus is being run by a mob of bloody clowns:ugh:

I have been amazed that no one has bought up the security fence the morons are building at Redcliffe.

It will only be on the side of the airfield where the road is so terrorists will need to beg, borrow or steal a tinny.

The gates, both personnel and vehicular were to have locks. In the case of vehicular gates keys are to be provided to hangar occupants...like they'll never be copied/lost/etc...but who cares because only about half the airfield is actually fenced...but the REALLY funny part...the part that makes you want to grab the person responsible for this decision by the throat and squeeze...is the personnel gates.

The intention was for them to be locked obviously. Enquiries were made by 'stake holders' as to what type of locks. Big bastard key operated padlocks was the answer. But why not use combination locks? Because they were not suitable (read expensive). What about non resident aircraft arriving at night when no one is around to let people off the airport. Ohh good point...we'll get back to you.

Wanna know the answer?

"We have decided they will be unlocked but with self closing feature".

Oh good:ugh:

Wanna know something REALLY funny?

I was there the other week and the fence man was fitting barbed wire to the fence above the unlocked, self closing gate.:ugh:

Edited having read the link below...When are we going to demand some accountability from our 'leadership' and start to forcefully remind them who, exactly, they work FOR?

The price rise won't affect me.
I handed-in my expired one and I'm not intending to get another one.
AFAIC, an ASIC means that my government only trusts me for 2 years after I have been 'checked'.

Anyway, I strongly suspect that the background checks are simply a trawl through electronic records, so why don't ASIO and AFP do some decent data-matching with all the data that they already have access to. ?
eg. CASA knows that I am a pilot, so if I go and do something really nasty which results in a severe criminal conviction then ASIO/AFP will know via the court system. If they then deem it necessary they can then put restrictions on what I'm allowed to do.
I mean, why wait until I actually submit a biennial application before I'm checked ?

Blazes, it shouldn't take that long to trawl and categorise all court records.

Chuck

YRED is not a secured airport anyway......Now YCAB you can not drive onto without a gate pass, but you can walk in.....

Of course it could get stupid like it has at YBAF.......not only is it locked and coded etc....there is no phone number to call to get assistance:ugh::ugh:

Ahh but Jaba, You can jump over the fence and find the combination stuck to the airside glass door of the old terminal building:ugh:
Well that's the way it was in December when I dropped in for an overnighter.

I think any thoughts we might have had that the new government would perhaps review this rediculous system are well and truly fukced.
The AGs Department has only written to Issuing Bodies for response in regard to the proposed increase in costs. As many here on these forums apply and pay for their own cards, the IBs are unlikely to make much noise. Rather they will just shrug and pass the cost on to us poor end users.

Binghi : Who is the 185 driver??

Jock: the fence where I was at did not seem worth the trouble and injury, its more secure than the time before I went there. And yes once on the inside its easily found.

So flyin after hours in an U/L, get the code, let in all ya bad mates and :oh::oh::oh:

Tennant Creek, Tindal, Hooker Creek(!!), (and even Kalkgurung?!!!!) all secure airports - ASIC required. I could list at least half a dozen more easily, as I'm sure you all could.

Now I've got to be careful here, because I'm effectively admitting to an offence...

I work for an essential service, I waited OVER FIVE MONTHS for a RENEWAL to my ASIC, continued to work all that time, ie. airside at securtiy controlled airports INCLUDING AN INTERNATIONAL CAPITAL CITY and was challenged...

NEVER!!!

So much for this security bu*%$hit. Chimbu you got it right where is the accountability? I wrote to my MP and he said "come and talk to us" and was promptly voted out anyway, also got a disgusting letter back from Vaile after I wrote to him, similar to that described above.

The Tennant Creek fence is a similar story to the Redcliffe one too :ugh:

This has really got to stop. Tell me it's really about security!!!

:yuk: :yuk: :yuk:

I was with a govt officer at a capital city airport recently. Took a little while for me to get a visitors badge and wait for my escort to come to the gate. The govt officer didn't need to go through all of that as he had an ASIC valid for all airports.

At the end of the day we were discussing ASICS which was when he realized that his had expired at the start of the year!

Guys, everything you are saying is true - no argument. Non challenge at security controlled airports, getting away for months with it on expired cards etc etc etc. The list is bloody endless.
But having an afternoon bitch session here is not going to change it one bit. The Dept have turned this whole game into a very successful closed shop where they can impose whatever they want and the govt of the day is too dim to question any of it.

Jock

You are a clever fellow (or lady), how about you find us a way to get to the minister directly, not get filtered by some secretary, and all of us on PPRUNE will print out a copy of ALL the threads on here, and we will all post it or hand deliver it!

Maybe the message might get through.:ugh:

Come on - thats just an insult to the modern Australian (Australia latin for "EVERYTHING IS f@rkin GOING UP HERE).

I mean its such good value that I think 200 bucks a pop is the fair and just thing to do. I think i might send them a few extra dollars as I don't think they are getting their money's worth!!
