Qantas Sim Flight For Visitors?

G'day all,

Simple question, does Qantas allow people who are visiting the Qantas Flight Training centre access to the company sims? If so, is the visitor allowed to engage in actual flying of the sim?

If anyone in the know could fill me in on this it would be much appreciated.

Not much help, but I did just this in 1990 and again in 1996 or thereabouts.At the time i knew a guy who was a 747 f/o and then 767 skipper at the respective times. I would be surprised if you could still do this in todays environment, but if you know someone, I guess you can only ask......

i was there for work exp just a few weeks ago
and i remember overhearing the supervising saying
to somebody that visitors are allowed into the sims
but arent allowed to actually fly

you need to pay to have a go in the sims..although
i did a get a go:}

I just got a hold of a mate of mine whom is a QF A330 Skipper and he has filled me in on the details. He anticipates I will be flying the 737-400 company sim.
Just thought I'd ask on pprune as an answer is always quite prompt before I awake a captain recovering from jetlag.:ok:

i worked there for 11 yrs, even worked inside the sim, modifying parts, still never got a flight in it.

Like everything, it all depends on who you know.

Know the right person, you'll get a fly.....

A neighbour of mine worked at the jet base, he took me and another friend of his on a great tour of the base, including the sim centre. He had arranged a demonstration, that ended up with both of us flying circuits at the old HK checkerboard approach. It was the 747 classic sim (night visuals only), but still a lot of fun. For comparison, the no motion F1-11 at Amberley has Commodore 64 visuals (only a procedural trainer) but still a fun sim. The latest versions coming from CAE and others is phenomenal!!!

EH101 is another good sim, even carrier/deck landings and formation flying is possible.:eek:

I'm sure it's the 737-400. Apparently the rosters are full for the other sims.

yeah..2hrs is about 1700 and 4hrs is about 2700 i think..
and dont be suprised if they tell you the only time
available is 11pm-3am :}

If it's at the training centre in Airport West (Melbourne) then it will be a 737, most likely -300 or -400.
