View Full Version : Is Jet2 rubber ducked?

Rubbish 2% pay rise for flight deck.
Now cabin crew told if they don't reach certain target they'll get no commission.

There's cost cutting and cost cutting. Robbing the cabin crew of their commission or the ability to earn it isn't the same as getting rid of inflight beauty therapists.
2% pay rise ,they can call this consolidate as much as they like. I say they can stick their pay rise/cut up their arse.

There's no point in management banging on about them wanting Jet2.com to be the airline of choice and then seemingly going out of their way to cause problems for cabin and flightcrew.

I think you'll find there's a lot of good people leaving about ......... now :yuk:

There is cost cutting and difficult times at the moment for sure, but lets face it, PM has never been one to recognise the great workforce he has with the reward of decent Ts & Cs and this really comes as no surprise. Accept it, get a union or find something better!

King Halibut
11th Apr 2008, 17:47
Union! Balpa? Jet2, you know PM will tear up the T&Cs we have, smash a few chairs up and then try and scupper any new T&Cs . And we are getting something better.

Is PM really that bad???????? Or is it a bit of the hard-headed-businessman-everyone-loves-to-flame syndrome?
Judging from postings over the last few years he's fast approaching MOL / WW in the popularity stakes....... remarkable for a relatively small outfit.

Don't blame me, i'm only the sh#t stirrer!!

If anyone is really that upset with j2 I am more than happy to have their flight crew job! ;)

and thats the nub of the problem, guys willing to sell their soul and undercut in the idle hope that doing so will give them the big opportunity to move on. blissfully unaware they are aiding a race down to the bottom in t&c's

CABUS
12th Apr 2008, 10:35
I meant that as more of a joke, sorry if it did not come accross that way. I dont intend on undercutting people as I have no one to undercut as I have a ATPL(f) and working as a flight dispatcher.

Cabus, I note you are 24 - I was once.

Do you want to be earning what you are earning now when you retire?

I am in my 30's (just) and I remember Very vividly the last recession, there are alot of people on here who are will not remember this, IT WAS DIRE. I am not saying that we are going into a recession, but with the 'Credit Crunch' and the high costs of oil, companies are battoning down the hatches

I'm in my late 30's and remember bad times too.
The IMF and many others are suggesting that this may be more like the 1930's than the late 80's / early 90's .
Whatever, there will be bad times ahead. At the moment my view is a job is a job, knuckle down, hope to ride out the storm and regroup afterwards.
Its tough to accept I know with many public sector twats going on strike for bigger pay rises, but they will soon get a wake up call too.
I don't think any job is secure at the moment if you move. You could move to a 'secure' airline sure, but you'll be bottom of the seniority list and last in, so when (not if, but when) the inevitable happens you will be first out the door.

Finncapt I totally appreciate your point I think I am just a bit too keen and I am sorry if have upset or offended anyone. However, please bare in mind that I have a frozen ATPL and I am working on the ground on minumum wage spending most days working with flight crews and on 30-40% of the turn arounds they moan about their T&C's then after work I see them drive home in their Z4's.

You can count on one hand the number of Z4s that are parked in Staff West in Manch!!!

1. At least you have had a pay rise - none here for 18 months.

2. It is high time that ALL airlines, instead of fighting the inexorable rise in fiuel prices and trying to absorb them by hitting the soft target namely staff costs, simply came 'up front' with the public, said this cost has increased and so have your tickets. There is no unversal law that says air fares cannot go up. Look at the railways - fare rises on a regular basis and usually to cover large pay rises for frontline staff viz drivers negotiated by a strong, national union.:D

I think the main issue for Jet2 is the little we hear from the top. :(

I for one am glad that PM is at the helm when times get a little rough. He got Channel Express through the crisis of Sept. 11 ok, albeit they were mostly a cargo company and I think I'm right in saying the company has been profitable since it started. However, if he could just show a little compassion for staff who are doing their best to lower fuel costs and maintain high safety records!

I wouldn't of bought shares in Dart Group (owners of Jet2) had I not belived the company will strive forward.

I feel a promise of larger pay rises for when the company makes a bigger profit, hopefully next year, might increase moral as well as a simple 'thank you' every now and then.

As I mentioned on a seperate forum, cutbacks on less profitable routes, fuel and other cost savings as well as more charter work should hopefully see Jet2 back on the offensive. Don't forget the company grew extremely quickly in 06 / 07 and spent vasts amounts of money on aircraft, route aquistion etc.

I'm not defending the company as such, just don't think we need to be as worried as those chaps in Silverjet / Oasis / Globespan yet.............. I hope!

The reality is that now times are hard, the message is that we can't give much to the employees, i.e. we've got to tighten our belts. But when times were good we saw lessening of T&C's, abandoning of increments and new contracts which were much worse than those who had been in the company for a few years, no medical for F/Os, no loss of licence, rubbish sick pay, and huge charges for type ratings.

Last summer, many at LBA worked their socks off, but nothing was given to the crews - nothing extra for a good summer. When the good times return, and if Jet2 make it through, I'd put good money on there being nothing extra given. But I have my doubts Jet2 will get through it - cargo was a much safer bet.

As an aside - cabus, you are the sort of person aviation needs - someone with a practical mind and prepared to work hard to get where you want.

Not the result of an mba's decision on who is the best person for big airways to employ.

I don't think I would have been employed by big airways if I had had to go through the current seletion, but I think I didn't do them badly in my 31 years!!

Good Luck.

I fully understand that times are hard for all but Jet2 management has just wiped their bums with our recently agreed roster agreement.

A senior F/O bonus scheme with so many stipulations (one of which is playing a tune from a French horn stuck up your arse) meaning only several F/Os actually get anything.

However there always seems to be enough money for more office cockroaches.

Sadly, even my unnatural perverted lust for the local sheep dressed in fine hosiery is not enough to keep me here much longer.

Tis all very sad as the people I work with are actually brill in Jet2!

Read my lips slowly...They do Cargo/Mail/Charter/Lo Co and Trucks !

Z4's in Manch car park...must be the baggage handlers !

Most F/deck are too stingey to have anything that flash !
It's normally a clapped out Ford Mondeo car park car, held together with speed tape round the arches.

Know of a Loadmaster with a Lancia Delta Intgral HF Turbo though and another with a TR8....hey they might be Old but they're FAST !

Hi ILS/Chillie,
Yep always interesting times at Channex...opps I mean Jet2..PM always canny when it comes to business and yes I only got 2% as well !...but the bonus as Malcom would say is all those Cabin Crew ok:....Personally my base is going great guns with charters and the Royal Mail is 100% OTP....so don't see what all this doom and gloom is about...unless your MOL and parking up a/c due poor yeilds and need to flog em quick before they become a fiscal drag on your balance sheet ?
P.s Chillie ..you lot finished with our Tom Fly 757 yet...need it for the Pond you know !

Well it is a 2% pay rise, but when you think that the rate of living is about 4.1% then you have say that we are 2.1% down therefore paycut?:{

Barke, I do not have a roof over my head. I live in a box at the end of runway 14, so there. As to the rest of your post you're AFU. I should give my 2% pay rise to more needy people when I live in a box, how dare you :E

We are all in the wrong profession, politics is where its at.
Your average MP who is incompetent and a liar and is grossly overpaid is about to vote themselves a nice juicy 23% ish payrise.
No qualifications or experience needed.

Not bad eh.............waste of time and money this aviation lark.:ugh:
