Fasting Glucose levels

After a recent non aviation medical my fasting glucose level was 5.95.
Is this too high? or what should it be? Could it indicate Glucose intolerance?

Granny I run a lot of glucose tests at my laboratory and to really confirm if you have intolerence or diabetes you need to undergo a glucose tolerence test. This involves fasting again. They will take a sample of blood to get another fsating result (more of a baseline) then you consume a glucose drink (very sweet!) then one hour later they take your blood and then one hour after that they take your blood again. Following this the results obtained from the three sampes will indicate how well you can process the glucose. There are predetermined cut-offs that say whether you have type two diabetes. From memory I believe the fasting should be over 7.5 to confirm type 2.

This test is the best way of determining diabetic status

Getting it tested once is a bit like checking your engine water level when the gauge reads normal.

Getting it tested twice, is a bit like stripping the water pump, when all is running fine:)
