Hello,

I have a New Zealand (ICAO) PPL
No Night Rating
No practical RT

Before I start my JAA ATPL's this summer do I need to convert?

If not fantastic!!

If yes, then FAA would be much easier eh as its just paperwork to convert??

Also - what do I do regarding the Night and RT??

ALL feedback would be appreciated!!

Many thanks

If its the JAA ATPL exams you are refering to all you need to start is an ICAO PPL so your good to go.

LASORS 2005 that I have to hand here credits the training but requires a skill test and FRTOL. Not such good news but at least you have done the training. When you visit a club you will need a check ride in any case and this would be a good place to start. Check LASORS 2008 via CAA website,. As far as I can tell, on the up side the training hours will count and it is only really the test fee and radio exam/test fees that you will have to pay extra for on top of the normal dual rate until cleared solo. Its good to fly, keep it up.

thanks for the replys...

The fact I don't have a night rating is not a factor at this stage then?

Can my flight test and radio exam be done in the states?

You will have to do the FRTOL at some point, but it won't stop you taking the ATPL theory, along with exams. Just needs to be done before you can be issued with CPL. Its not hard, just common sense, and most training providers can point you in the right direction, assuming they don't have thier own RT examiner
