I'm interested in getting my MECIR current again but am having trouble finding places (like many others) willing to give me a start date that doesn't involve at least a 4 week wait.

Does anyone know how it would work doing it in the US and then adding it onto a CASA licence? I believe it is fairly straight forward to have a CASA licence validated into a FAA, but I'm not sure of the logistics of the rating being of any use here and if it's looked down upon.

There are places in the US that offer a 50 hour MECIR on a Duchess and a further 50 hours on a Duchess for hour building for around $17K (US).

The training looks like it's done completely in the aircraft, i.e. no sim, so at face value it doesn't sound too bad, but of course you need to factor in things like accommodation, food, transport etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks all.

Try these guys in the US. http://www.crmatc.com/
Ask for Joe Perry. Great bunch of guys, nice a/c.
If you want to convert it back to Aussie one, then you have to do IREX and a flight test. So make sure you factor in another 1.5k for that! About the going rate these days I hear!

Also try Sheble Aviation in Kingman, Arizona Sheble Riviera Aviation Flight Schools in Kingman Arizona - Home Page (http://www.shebleaviation.com/)

If you meet all the hour requirements, you can actually finish within 2 days for SE/MECIR...I did mine there last year and now I am planning to convert to CASA.

Convert? Don't you do the same flight test for the initial issue of an Australian MECIR?
