Hello, I just read on flight int'l the advert for Type and Non-type rated ATR 42/72 captain for an Irish Airline. From the advert I deduce that it has to be AerArann. Can anyone shed some light on this and working conditions at AerArann? I was most surprised by the tax free statement. Thanks as always.

Hi there,
if you are desperate for a job, take it. If you have other options, hands off! I donīt know, how AA developed the last few years, but I know times, when people were pushed to fly with snacks, which at least left serious doubts in the airworthiness.

Before you sign, gather as much information as you can!

good luck!

By the way, what kind of experiance do you have? hours, types etc...

Am curious about the tax free statement. You will be paid a lump sum of non-taxed cash.

Just be aware Direct Personnal do stipulate in their contract that you have to sort your own taxes out with relevant authority! You are termed self employed, hence paying you without the money being taxed.

So if you wanna beat the tax man- good luck-keep the cash, otherwise and be it in Ireland or UK, you are obligated to pay your own tax as a "self employed" worker. If you want to open up bank accounts there or even rent, than you need a tax number-so you will have to be registered. Perhaps you can have money deposited in country of your choice, but you will have sort taxes out with that country eventually am sure.

You want to eat peanuts and work for them you are welcome.
The only good thing with AA is you get weather experience, if your idea of fun is getting the s--t kicked out of you and everyone else every other day go for it. Otherwise I personally took the step and am now working above the weather, nice view, smooth flight, and the money we donīt need to talk about it. Bigger and better.

Peanuts boeing?
Basic and expences added, Fo's pull alot more than any other turbo operator in western Europe and most jet operators when starting out. I have heard of Fo's on wet leases getting €5.500 a month after tax not bad!:hmm:

Direct Personment.

These people automatically pass your details to the closest Revenue post available. As they all do these days.

Live in the UK and argue tax ? Forget it, you are assumed to be guilty until you prove your innocence.
Also those people are as crooked as the  at Winalot.
Based on hard experience.
l would love to see these people in court.
Does that answer your question ?

Use Contractair instead! They will employ you via a company on Jersey thereby not paying any taxes.
I did so for 3.5 years and never paid a single penny in tax during that period :ok:
The tax office approved it as long as I would not exceed 42 days per 6 months in my own country.

Hello!
Reading all that has been mentioned here, what about:
1. Social security
2. Medical insurance including family
3. School fees
4. Housing
5. Transport

I have been around and all these vital items were and are covered by the agent.
What about Aer Arann are contracting pilots covering all by them self?

I am grateful if anyone can clarify.

Thanks.

It has been some years since I worked there so based on the T&C then:

1. Social security
NO. Unless you pay tax in a country somewhere.

2. Medical insurance including family
NO.

3. School fees
NO

4. Housing
Yes. You share a house with another contractor. If you don't wanna share you get a fixed allowance instead. I used to get 700 Euros per month.

5. Transport
You get a fixed allowance per month I believe it was 300 euros.

A bank account in Jersey ?
Mine was opened for me over 20 years ago.
They must have felled a tree since warning of the penalties incurred for non-declaration to uk tax authorities of the information they passed on automatically. The account was dormant anyway.
Take care ladies and gents, and don`t listen to the leeches.:)

Non iron,

Maybe I'm getting you wrong, but I didn't say I had a bank account on Jersey? I had an account in my home country.
I said that when working for Contractair they will employ you with a company that is based on Jersey. You are supposed to pay tax in that country you are employed in, Jersey has no tax.
My own tax office was informed of this and they agreed that I did not have to pay tax in my country (I'm not British).
I was not covered in case of any illness as I did not my tax hence I had private healtcare instead.
If you go to Direct personel and Parc you will have to pay Irish tax when the Irish tax office finds out. I know of a couple who had to leave as they would be forced to pay if they continued working there.
