What are the duty regulations for flying time, during a certain periods of time, in India, for a Part 121 style carrier? Do they have something similar to the US 30 hours in 7 days, 100 hours in 30 days, 1000 hours in a year? Thanks

Duty Regulations in India are called FDTL (flight duty time limits) and here are some of the highlights: (Domestic)

Maximum duty time is 12 hrs (unless extended by DGCA for unforseen circumstances).
Flight time limit is 8 hrs and 5 landings
7 day limit is 35 hrs
30 day limit is 125 hrs
12 months is 1,000 hrs (not Jan-Dec) This is a running calendar of 12 consecutive months.

Rest requirement is minimum of 10 hrs of rest or double the flight time whichever is more. So if you fly 8 hrs your rest will be 16 hrs. If you fly 3 hrs, your rest will be 10 hrs.

Any part of duty if within 0000-0500 hrs gets 2 hrs extra rest for every hour of part therefor. No more than 2 nights of flying during 0000-0500.
You also get 2 hrs for transportation.

Actually the Indian rest requirements are much more "pilot friendly" than the FAR rules.

Just a few questions that come to mind-

So basically, if on a particular day, you flew for 8 hours and the flight ended at 2300 hours, your next flight wouldn't be until 1500 hours or after, the next day, correct?

When the regulations state no more than 8 hours of flying time, in a 24-hour period, when exactly does that time begin and end?
Then, in addition to the 8 hours, there is also the number of landings that are limited to 5. What if you've just completed the 5th landing of the day, but haven't yet come up on the 8 hours - can you legally continue, or call it a day, and vice versa?

Also, could you, with an example, explain..."Any part of duty if within 0000-0500 hrs gets 2 hrs extra rest for every hour of part therefor"

Is the transportation time counted towards duty time?

1 If you fly 8 yours the rest period required is 16 hours + 2 hours for transportation + 1 hour(15min after chocks ON and 45 mins reporting before Choks OFF). So if your Chocks were ON at 2300, your next block can commence earliest at 1800 h next day. You will not have any problem with 8 hours in 24 rule because you have had a break of 19 hours in between.

2 If you have completed 5 landings in a day you can't fly till the time you have completed your rest period, except for unforeseen contingencies like diversion.

3 If your Chocks ON is after 2345 and before 0045, you will get an additional rest period of two hours. If your Chocks ON was at 0046, you will get additional rest of four hours etc.

4 Transportation time is neither Duty Time nor Rest period.
