Good afternoon,

This is my first post on this forum, although I have been an active observer since May 2004. Despite this, I reluctantly pursue guidance regarding somewhat of a tiered topic one would assume, for this reason I apologies in advance.

I am expecting to temporally relocate to Florida this summer with the sole intention of completing the CPL route, at present I am four hours short of completing my PPL. I acknowledge the age scope of individuals is a significant factor to perspective employers when recruiting. I am 32 years of age, for this reason, I am somewhat conscious of future employment prospects, certainly when comparing necessary expenditure required to obtain appropriate standard. Although I posses a good academic background, I am currently a qualified teacher and psychologist here in the UK, nevertheless, I have been informed that I would have very limited opportunities to acquire full-time employment as a result of age. I hope there are individuals out there who would kindly share their thoughts and provide assistance where appropriate.

If you haven't finished your PPL yet I wouldn't be rushing over to Florida this summer with a CPL in mind. You're going to need to do some hour building, and there's also the small issue of ATPL theory. You can certainly do your hour building over there, but the theory is not something you're going to knock out in a couple of months. The ATPL syllabus is huge.

Edited to add: 32 is not even remotely too old. I'm the same age and know a number of people who were rapidly snapped up by airlines. A strong academic background and the right personality seem to be a lot higher up many airlines wishlists than being 10 years younger with little/no life experience. I know a chap who got his CPL in his 40's and is now happily flying long-haul cargo.

To be fair if you have been a casual observer of these forums for some years then you would have noticed that this question has been asked over and over again , hence the "Perpetual Am I Too Old "thread found in the sticky above. this is also the second time it has been asked within two days.
If you want to do it then do it .Opinions here are all over the place and are exactly that , they are opinions . I know 19 year old integrated students who got jobs , albeit they payed handsomely for it , and I alo know a 44 year old whose first job was on the 738 and he didnt pay outright for a TR.
But as was stated dont go rushing out to florida . Once you done your PPL you need atpl GS before you go for CPL
Research it well , including looking at the other threads on here and make an informed decision

I know, fully appreciate the ‘Too Old Question’ has been put forth on several previous occasions, nevertheless one always feel compelled to obtain personal reassurance. Although, I assure you that I did not observe this particular topic within the last week, even I would deem asking such a question so soon afterwards completely farcical. For this reason, please accept my sincere apologies!!!

Despite the afore mentioned, I am delighted to hear your reassuring sentiments. I actually initiated the PPL back in 2004; unfortunately, as a result of an unpleasant double dislocation of my right shoulder playing rugby, I reluctantly suspended the PPL programme 35 hours in. After almost two and a half years of intensive physiotherapy. I was able to recommence the PPL programme. However, as you are aware, a lapse of two years or more, one is required to restart the PPL from the very beginning. Fortunately, during this period of time, I invested rather heavily in study literature and software for the ATPL, studying vigorously, I deemed such action may provide a degree of insight, a ‘head start’ I guess one could argue. Although, I will happily contend I posses only a fraction of the knowledge need to acquire ATPL, I have spent almost four years studying intensively in preparation. Despite this, it is obviously apparent; I have misconstrued previous advice, indicating eligibility to complete the ATPL out at the Aviation Flight School in Florida. I suppose this identifies a server lack of understanding of procedure on my behalf. I had planned on relocating out there for a little over nine months on the understanding such time would be more than adequate, as well as building up much need flight time. Obviously somewhat mixed feelings tonight, on the one hand I am delighted to learn that age is not yet deemed a negative factor, but on the other, the scheduled nine months is somewhat in disarray.
