I have just fooled the doc into signing me off as A1G1Z1 again! I have also been asked by a friend to fly his ac. My PPL expired some years ago when I moved from the Gnat to the Hunter (the Hunter was over the max weight for SE PPL) so I need my PPL back.

Does anyone have a list, or know, of Mil Docs who can issue PPL Medicals? It may save cost, but also some of the steps/tests?

In my experience the vast majority of SMOs (at several units) have been able to sign off my PPL medical with very little deviation from a PME. I was under the impression that most RAF docs undertake the relevant training/accreditation at some point as part of their professional training/development.

The SMO at Cosford is/was CAA approved - also Valley.

Got mine from the SMO at Cranditz. Cost £40 for someone to 'read' the ECG and then £40 for 'admin costs'! Was about 2 years ago though!

Flying Scotsman,

You're in Gloucestershire, right? I'd be surprised if none of the MOs at Brize didn't have the quals to do a ppl med.

Dr Rowntree used to conduct CAA medicals at Brize a few years back. - I think she was OC PMS' wife so may have moved on?

Dr Rowntree was still at Brize as of last year. Very helpful she was too. Expect a hundred quid admin charge for a Class 1 CAA medical.
