I may as well go first...................

WIND UP

I have often been picked on by my spelling and grammar by the Pprune Gramma Nazis, but this one is too much for even me........

No,

I really believe that this one is genuine. You should see some of the spelling in the recent applications I've received. This one is about on average.

Long time ago, I was a tutor at a good law school in NZ. The students would bring me work that was so badly spelled & put together, I was appalled. These days, with lower standards & higher cynicism, I would simply be impressed. Actually, let me rephrase that. The student's wuld bring me stuff badly speled nd i cldnty beleve it. sorta modern pidgin, for the PNG boys. In their defence, tho, TV changed things a lot, even back then, and I reckon texting has changed things even more, now. Sucks, but get used to it, cos it ain't going away.

Now about the actual question, I'm sorry to say I can't help - don't know nothing about career paths for Australian pilots, but I would say good luck to you, young man :) You'll probably find a good search for threads on this website would answer your question(s) and save subjecting your spelling to any more righteous scrutiny. Lots of people before you have asked similar questions, I think, which is probably part of the reason that no-one has answered your actual question yet. Do a search.

Does it matter if commercial pilots can spell anyway? Thought it was all about keeping the dirty side down, arriving where you wanna go with fuel in the tanks, and knowing what to do when one or all of your donks go quiet, yeah? In other words, being a good pilot, and F%&$ paperwork! Flying rocks, and don't let all us codgers (38? codger? guess so, at least compared to 17) tell you otherwise...

PS could be wrong, but I don't think it's an AF joke - I think it's real, really. If not, well, not much of a joke, but you GOT ME :) I didn't put exactly accurate info in my profile, when I first signed up, either, cos like many people I'm in the habit of not giving websites true info. Didn't realise, at the time, that Pprune was so kosher. Remind me to change my place of residence in profile from US to NZ, OK? So no, I don't think the discrepancy b/w 17 and 20 is quite the smoking gun. Anyway, enough on this. Got an aeroplane to go and fly...

Personally, I'd recommend a cadetship at the CSIRO...at least, then, you'll get a little culture!:}:ouch::suspect:
