Hey pilots,

I may have an interview and sim assesment coming up just wondering could the guys that have been through already, shed some light please on the interview process, questions and what they throw at you in the sim.

Im trying to start a constructive thread like the ryanair one, theres loads of interview info on pprune about ryanair but not much on flybe.

Appreciate it very much,

cheers

As long as you are not the wrong side of 40 and you tell them you are happy to work at any base offered you should be fine :O

Serious answer, questions were in no particular order.

Tell us about how you got into aviation.
Why do you want to work for us.
What can you tell us about Flybe.
Where are our bases, what aircraft do we fly and how many.
Give an occasion you made a good decision.
Give an occasion when you made a bad decision.
What are SOPs, why do we need them.
Explain CRM to a layman.
Would you deviate from SOPs.
As a pilot what can you do to increase our profits.
What problems face Flybe in the immediate future.
Have a peek at the pay scales (A4 sheet handed over) best not to laugh at that point. :O
Where would your base of choice be.

Is the sim ride still on the 146 sim at Woodford ?

If so I can leave some pointers as have 4000hrs on Flybe 146s. If it's a Dash sim then I'm of no bloody help at all !!

It's the Beech 1900D or the Saab 340 sim at Farnborough (rumour has it that the S340 sim is on the way out of Flight Safety)

So 42 is the wrong side then
Who would be interested in me at that age ?

Palangi,
There will be tech questions but the amount and detail depends on who is on the interview panel. When I did my interview any of the tech questions asked were relevant to the operation (Here are some pointers: busy airspace, below FL250, British wx).

What do you know about Belfast?
Quickly followed by "Can you land with a crosswind from the right?":}

All good advice.

Expect the tech questions to be relevant to turboprops, plus the odd 'I did it during my ATPLs and forgot all about it' type question, just for fun.

Such as:
Decode a TAF or METAR, plus follow-up questions (e.g. would you land in these conditions?)
What does a yaw damper do?
Why do we have propellers at max rpm for take-off and landing?
What is the service ceiling of the Q400, and why?

And my favourite:
What is the difference between IAS, CAS, EAS & TAS?

Don't get too worked up over the technical questions - you can't possibly be expected to know everything, and the interviewers are fairly gentle. I suspect they are much more interested in what you are like as a person.

Dihaz,

If successful at interview you will be invited for a sim evaluation on a later date at FAB.

If you don't know something definitely say so and don't bluff. However it obviously won't make a great impression if you don't know the answers to more than one or two questions. If you are on the right track but are struggling they may give you a dig out.

Flybe don't hold it against you being over 40 do they !!!!!!!!!:hmm:

As most airlines will admit, the older you are the harder you may find the TR course, especially if you have no previous relevant experience. That said, I worked for them until last year and joined them at 35yrs as 1st commercial job. Came across several "older" (and in my opinion much more reliable) new hires. Out of interest there is a grandmother flying the 146 who didn't start until her fifties I believe.

You will need to prove yourself against other much younger applicants so you will need to be very ready for the process. Don't know who interviews are with but I expect Don Darby (head of personnel) and Capt. Ian Cheese (Dash 8 fleet manager). Be very flexible with base if you can as the 1st job may need some sacrifices in that respect. When I started back in 01 most newies went to Belfast. If you get a chance to go there I thoroughly recommend it!!!!!

Good luck

Interview's i beleive are NO longer done with Don Darby as i beleive he has retired. I beleive it is no done with Capt Ian Baston, sometimes Capt Ian Cheese and a member of the personnel department.

I had an interview a few weeks ago with them and the interviewers were Joanna Soaper and Ian Ceed. The interview was straight forward enough and was a competency based interview with some tech questions relevant to your experience to date.

I got to the sim check but unfortunately had a very off day. Back to the drawing board.

DeA320,

Im surprised how many Ian's are in Flybe!! :)) Sorry to hear about your sim, can you tell us what they did with you in particular please (i.e. steep turns, climb descents etc etc). Also any other tips you can give us deppressed pilots:-(

Good luck in future!

Dihaz,

Disappointed about my performance alright, but that's the way it goes.

Check was done in SAAB 340, TO was on Rwy 33, on runway heading to 5000 a few turns on to headings, track back to HON VOR then intercept 180R outbound for vectors for an ILS to 33. You're given some assisstance on this flight but for the second its all on your own.

This one is a little different as you have to fly the procedure to it's TO on Rwy heading to 3000 track back to BHX and then the procedure. I was on 33 the other guy then did Rwy 15.

PM me if you want to know more.

De.

It's no rumour that the Saab 340 is on it's way out at Farnborough (much to the relief of the techs). The Beech 1900's days are numbered here too as is the KA200, the only other prop a/c we have here aside from the 2 Q400's. There are no other prop jobs due in for the foreseeable future so it could be that future interviews will be on the Q400.

Good luck to all who want to try.

Doing the sim evaluations on a prop is only a relatively recent thing anyway. Used to be done on the 146 sim in Woodford so not impossible that they could do it on another jet sim in FAB (pure speculation).
