was hoping someone could shed a little light on flying for falcon,

i understand it's a night freight operation 5 nights a week but was wondering what time (local) you'd sign on and off??

and ofcoarse where do you fly too??

have heard there is no accomadation provided so how do you find some and what is the cost of renting??

have heard that command pay on the 1900 is around 50g's US is this close to the mark??

and just one last one does falcon do there own endorsinments now or do you have to get one elsewhere??

hope this doesn't sound too much like a shopping list but would appreciate some help.

thanks in advance

Howdy,

I can give you a bit of info on Falcon as I fly for DHL out of Bahrain and know some of the guys. They currently want you to show up with an endorsement but as everybody is rapidly running out of captains perhaps that will change; as for now however you do need the B1900 ticket. They like to upgrade from the inside as well but the last guy with the time to do that will be going left seat soon, after that they will hire stricktly out side for a bit. The pay ends up being about $5300 US a month including flight pay and per-diem. That is better then a single rated captain (Metro III only) at DHL by a bit as they make $3500. Dual rated guys (metro and Convair) make a bit more here as well. We do also get housing to the tune of BD500 a month for single and BD600 for married captains, something Fox Charlie guys don't. Their better pay however makes up for the lack of housing supplement I think. It actually depends on which drivers I have spoken to as some say it's expensive and some say they can get a decent place for 4000 (about 400 BD)durhams between two guy's. Maybe someone will post to verify that one. I can tell you that they fly 11 to 13 and sometimes 15 days a month, about 6-7 hours flying a day. The other up side over us is that they live in Dubai. I like Bahrain enough but Dubai is much nicer in comparison. One other thing, they just lost a run and are moveing the F27 from Bahrain to Dubai (I think) so I do not know how much hiring they will be doing in the next while. Either way good luck, I personally love Dubai so go for it. Later.

Big Red,

If you are looking at trying to get a job a Falcon you will need a 1900 Rating, most people have paid for theirs.

Salary is good for a Turboprop job, you will have to pay for your own accomadation, which is a little expensive.

Operation is 7 days a week 24 hours a day, expect to fly 80-100 hrs a month mostly at night.

Destinations are Gulf Cities.

Skip.

You seem to be up to date on the B1900 info.

Do you know if the type rating is done in house or would i be advised to apply with it on my FAA ATP.

Is the FAA license the one to have in UAE.

Anything else you can pass on regards the current employment situation?

Regards
AP

BR,
If you live in Oz and want to fly 1900's, show up to Impulse with 8k cash and tell em you want a job! It has been done many a time with them...Ignore their standard letter about "keeping you on file for future vacancies", just hassle them out until they listen. If you are worried about the cost of a B1900 rating, consider the expense of travelling to Dubai and funding your stay there until Falcon give you a go...it might work out for you in the end, but I would think Australia still has some good opportunities, in Aus it comes down to how determined you are.

Either way, Good luck http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/tongue.gif

Just curious, whats your Total Time and Multi time?

gidday ga stinks

my toal time is pushing 7000hrs, 5000 turbine 1000 piston multi 1000 single ( guess i've been at it a while)

thanks for the info on impulse, and can certainly understand about the cost of hanging around dubai, and going to the u.s.
8k for impulse is much cheaper than the 15.2K quoted in perth and certainly worth a look but i guess the one thing driving me towards falcon is that my wife is looking at hospital jobs in dubai , so i was checking out what i could do as well, i guess also an opportunity to go somewhere different, maybe put some dollars away, all that sort of stuff,
the cost just seemed a necessary evil, and ofcourse one could have the combined holiday/endorsement/u.s atp trip.
believe me i'll be impressed if i can sort it all out!!!!

anyway thanks for the tip

cheers

BR,
Sorry if I seemed a bit rude... I had mistaken you for a low hour pilot. (And even then it's no excuse...) http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/redface.gif
All the best with Falcon, with those sort of hours, once you get the 1900 rating I guess it wouldn't be long to a command for you - if Falcon give you a go.
I assume also you have tried Emirates?
Keep us updated with how you go...

Good Luck, G.A_S :)
P.S: Last time I spoke to Falcon, they said something about not hiring if you were married, don't know if this only applies to FO's? This was quite a while ago though, give em a call..

Sounds as though youve got the lowdown on Falcon...most important thing is theres over 1500 cute emirates hosties in town...stuff the money and the hrs!!

Only thing is F/O's must be 27yrs or under on hire and thats final!!!!

Hey Colt

Sounds like you are the man in the know - especially about the hosties. So how come you need to be under 28? Is it cause they'll stay there longer? Fat chance?!

I heard there are a few guys there already on file for jobs. Do you know anything about that and what about the turnover.

Someone told me that Falcon was gonna get 737s? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers R

Well Ravensdale not sure on the old 737's...really dont think so!

Sounds as though youre the kinda guy Dubai needs...done any acting...flying experience not required.

Type on the 1900 essential,500hrs,300multi are the basics most guys seem to have far more than though.

To be in to win you have to have the rating first and foremost.

Must dash the films rolling!

Hey Colt

Yeah I did get a reply from the boss there. He told me to F off cause I was 28! Whats the deal there? But I also heard that if I had a degree it would be OK? He told me that there were heaps of guys on the books about 24 years old with 2000+ hours and heaps on type. He said most were Kiwis and Aussies. Do you know anything about them? Where are they flying etc? What about the new 737s are they going to have upper age limits on them?

PS Na my names Jack!! Terrance is a porn star isn't he???

Roger Co-] & big red,

I will get an adress for Falcon and post it tonight if I get a chance; just back in from DXB-DOH and must get sleep. In answer to the question about upgrades I can say that the mgmt. upgrades within if they can from right seat to left seat metro. The Convair is a very expensive endorsement ( over $40K US I have heard)so they have been leary in the past to upgrade onto it, although one of our captains off of the Metro will be doing the upgrade (I hope) by early next year as we will be losing a dual rated captain (all convair drivers also fly the sewtro). There have been as of late three captains (two metro and one dual rated) go onto the 757. The ****ty thing here is that they expect you to fork over the $17K US for the endorsement because it is actually owned and opperated by Nordstress Australia. Mgmt, the other day promised that this will not be the case if DHL owns the aircraft, and as the Nord. contract does not end for two years so until then it is out of our pockets; from what people are paying for turbo-prop ratings though it seams like a bit of a bargain, espescially as one of the 757 guys who was on for less then a year just went to Air Mauritious and others have gone to Emirates. So to sum up, yes DHL does upgrade from the inside. You will only pay for the 757 but the Convair requires a two year comitment so you could fudge your chances of the 757. Also, and this is a huge longshot, we may see a few of the 727's come down from BRX as they are replaced by the 757's up there. It will not happen for a couple of years if ever though. Anyhoo, good luck with getting down here, other then us flying our asses off I very much enjoy the place; but I must say that I prefer Dubai, EK buscuit shooters are far more intelligent then GF's. I'm going to get into trouble for that one for sure, eh! See ya.
