Dear Chaps,

On request of a friend, he would like to ask where would be the best place to gather historical information in relation to East West Airlines? He is interested in the post war years when they flew Ansons, Hudsons and the DC3. He has the book East West Eagles by Archie Smith(?), Stewart Wilson's Airliners in Australian Service book and searches on the internet.

He would like to get in contact with someone who knows more about the company back then. Is there a historical unit in the New England/ Tamworth area he could ask? (Internet searches do not inform). Especially in relation to the Anson on display at Tamworth aerodrome (is it still there?).
He also found out that the Temora Avaiation Musuem's Hudson was the Flagship of the EW fleet after the war. He has contacted them with no luck either as to the history of that machine.
He has also checked this site http://www.adastra.adastron.com/ where most EW post war machines ended up.
Any responses here would be appreicated. Friend apparently wants to write a book like EW Eagles but with more photography.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Cheers
CRN.

There's a chap sitting quietly in a Travel Agents Office in Tassie who you may want to get in touch with.

Give EastWestLoco a PM.:ok:

Thanks Buster,

EWL has responded but the time frame we are after is before his at EW. So the call is still out there chaps. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

CRN, try ringing the CP of Eastern in Sydney. If WW is still that CP his father was an F27 Captain, and later Operations Manager of EWA early on. I believe WW's father is still alive and living in Port Macquarrie.

Gidday Tipsy,

The chap you're referring to is the Regulatory Affairs Manager, not CP (but stands in from time-to-time).

Had the privelege of meeting his dad a couple of years ago in PMQ. Quite a pleasant experience that was.:O

Hugh & CRN, what RW in Port knows about early EW would probably fill several books. Definitely worth trying to contact him.

Hugh, I took RW flying a number of times and can fully agree with the Quite a pleasant experience that was. The size of his smile after doing aero's suggested he enjoyed it as well.

Another very good source of East West Airlines info would be from the Fantome who haunts this forum.
He had a number of posts in the History Forum on DC-3 just recently.

Perhaps Mr Neil Burkett could be persuaded to add a few words to the book!

Hugh,

on a similar note, do you know if "Theo" WW's son, is still in aviation?

Ren,

Please explain? I know WW quite well (professionally). I didn't know he had a son in the industry.

PM might be appropriate?

Urban Myth or not?....

A much related 'story' when I was a 'sprog' at BK on 'Chippies' all those years ago....

An EW pilot who used to stutter a bit, and subsequently supposedly held back in his promotion to Capt. because of the stutter,
in 'those' days, told to call SY TWR passing abm Broken Bay.

Said to have emulated the sing-song SYDNEY FLOUR Radio Commercial of the time...

"S-Sydney Tower is our t-tower, w-we use it every d-day,
And this is EWA, and I'm abeam of B-Broken Bay".

'Busted' back to F/O, for a while, so was the tale....:(

Mythbusters??
