I might get a job there - thinking about quitting a large Euro-Airline:

Do they treat theit employees decently ?
How is life in DXB ?
Are the schools OK?
How do the wives take life there?
etc.
And any other info you can offer...

Post it or email to [email protected] , please.

Thanx!!

Wonder-
Dubai is a fantastic place to live, very cosmopolitan and westernised. However, everything is very auf english, so anglophobes are not recommended. EK is a great airline to work for. HRH expects hard work, and responds in kind. I dont work for Emirates myself, bu i have both friends and family there and they all think its wonderful.

I worked for HRH not EK, but conditions were very similar and life in Dubai was excellent.

Your wife will have no problem, as she will probably have a full-time housemaid in tow within week's of getting off the plane, and spend her whole day laying in the sun, polishing her nails. That's what mine did anyway...until I got bored and moved on, but that's a different story all together.

Seriously, the standard of living in Dubai is second to none, serious amount's of disposable income and plenty opportunities to dispose of it.

I have heard Duibai described as a huge "Hotel lobby", you end up socialising in an ever changing crowd of friends, as one couple leaves an other arrives to take their place.

You'll either love it, or hate it so enjoy it while you can...just don't forget to move on after a couple of years. The longer you spend there, the harder it is to breakout and return to reality.

Thanx guyz!

Anglophobic IŽm not and hard work/good pay sounds fair - just sounds too good to be true.
Now that the "search" function is working again, IŽve read all the other posts concerning EK, too.

Seems like the only "catch" is the "loss of reality" or maybe even something like a "guilded cage" syndrome. (wonder if I spelled that correctly...)- guess you could say:"That guy really must have a problem!"

IŽll tell you how the interview worked out, and how I decide.

"Too good to be true" springs to mind, but maybe not so, from what I've heard.

A reality check required every now and again though, I think.

Thanks,

I've been through Dubai and found it to be a wonderful place, but unfortunately, it was only a lay-over.

I would love to spend more time there, and if there is a chance to work, GREAT. The only thing is that I don't have the qualifications for EK, so I'm looking for something along the lines of a turbo prop operator but have had little luck in getting names.

Any one have some ideas/leads.

It will be appreciated,

Thanks

The one, and only, turbo-prop operator based in Dubai is Falcon Express Cargo Airlines. They operate 4 Beech 1900C's.

You have to be endorsed on the 1900 before they'll look at you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks surfsup,

Unfortunately I am not qualified on the 1900.

What about other cities in U.A.E., Bahrain, Kuwait and/or others?????

Is there a good source where I could search companies in these areas??

Would working in other areas be much different than what I could expect in Dubai??

I hope that some more info could be passed my way, I'd really like the experience of working in that part of the world.

Guys- EK are the premier employer at the momet for ex pats.
Generous and realistic - they offer a fully comphensive deal for an employee and his family.
Look through the archives for more information.
Good Luck

Can you take your girlfriend? We're not married yet, will they consider her part of my family?

They wonŽt let a girlfriend in, just because you come...

Unless you two are married, youŽre most likely to have problems.
It is, after all, an islamic country, and youŽll have to play by the local rules.

Check out as much feedback on the place as you can (such as the book mentioned above and previous posts on Pprune).

Dubai is the most relaxed of the 7 UAE states and has plenty of Western folk dating and co-habiting and even getting married. It's all a matter of being descrete. Don't hold hands at the airport (or any public place for that matter) Don't obvioulsy be an unmarried couple and you'll be fine.

Entering Dubai as a single Russian female with no stated profession is a different matter.

So your best bet is to enter the UAE with a British passport as a visitor, no visa required, and state that you will be staying with a freind. You'll have to give an address.
I spent the last 6 years in most of the Gulf Arabs states, and have never run any trouble at all. One girl I know even managed to get thrown in jail for traffic offenses, and never came into problems over her living with her boyfriend.

Would anyone have information regarding the flight schedule with EK? How many nights away from home and where? Typical monthly schedule on different fleets!? Is there an flight allocation ($)? etc.

Jopa,

Depends which fleet you're on. The A310/A300 guys work their buts off. The A330 boys are on holiday. The B777 somewhere in between.
