This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first officially recognised powered flight in the UK at Farnborough in Hampshire on the 16th October 1908. Samuel F Cody (US citizen at the time) flew British Army Aeroplane No 1A (BAA1A) on that historic occasion. Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) a local museum based aviation heritage organisation announces that progress with the construction of a full size replica (52ft wingspan) of BAA 1A, in the exact configuration which flew on that day on 16th October 1908 with Samuel F Cody at the controls is on schedule for a roll out in time for the Farnborough International Airshow 2008. Full details on the project can be found on the project website at www.codyflyerproject.com.
