Nosedragger,

Sorry, no idea what type. Suggest it might be corruption of "aerobatic"?

Blow up the picture, and it appears that it is on UAE registration ending ZZ, can't quite make out the letter before. This is not on the UAE registration I could find.

I "believe" that its an ultralight with a small canopy, high wing and single rear mounted rotex style engine.

Hi mutt,

The news report does talk about a twin engined plane. However, we know what journalists can manage to get wrong!

Actually, if you look at that marking carefully you may see that it is not necessarily a "ZZ", or even a "22". It looks more like a lower-case "m" to me - the end of a brand or model name??

It could - perhaps - even be a piece of Arabic.

I have an advantage - with a pro graphics program - and can rotate and make adjustments. Take a look at what I see here. .http://www.bloorstreetwest.com/22zz.jpg

I was looking at the wrong spot... what about AE-XZZ?

The colours in the top are for contrast improvement...

Thanks Ipanema,

It will be A6-??? because that is the UAE aircraft reg. As I said, I can only find one copy of the UAE register online, and there is no reg ending in "ZZ".

Gents,

Finally got to dig out some photos of these machines, they arent carrying A6 tailnumbers, the one that I can read is AF025.

It could be an Aero Praktika (sp) microlight of Russian origin. There were a number of microlights and even an AN2 based at Abu Dhabi Bateen in the Air Force hangar a number of years ago. Basically the Air Force flying club. Hence the tail number AF025. They were not subject to GCAA regulation then, and apparently not now. This is not the first fatality at Um al Quwain.
