Icelandair have quite large winglets on their Boeing B752's.

This reduces induced drag by about 2-4 % ?

Usually the wings have to be strengthened when winglets are added.

I don't see many other B757's with winglets.

Is the benefit really worth the effort ?

Winglets add profiledrag and reduce induceddrag. There is allso the weight penalty. On short flights it is not worth the effort on long ones yes. The normally quoted figure is a 4 hour flight.

Finnair modified there 757īs

Indeed, Finnair have modified their fleet - they fly over my house most days!!

I may be wrong, but I think I read that Finnair 757s operate the longest average sector length of the type.

It's 6+ hours to the Canaries from here (Helsinki).
