Does anyone know what is going on with air malawi?

As far as we can ascertain they have not operated all their flights for about the last 3 weeks. A lucky few self loading cargo have been rerouted with lots of delays on other carriers for international routes. They aren't bothering to make alternative arrangements for people on within Malawi flights. Though they are more than happy to keep taking money and making bookings for imaginary journeys.

The official story is something about repairing an engine fault on one plane and that there were no Boeing parts in South Africa.

Coincidentaly they are advertising in the paper for tenders to be their insurers.

Anyone know more :ugh:

The website seems not to have much to say about any of it. Similarly the office here in Blantyre insists that there is not a problem sells a ticket then you get to the airport and there are no planes and no staff.

PRESS RELEASE25th February 2008We would like to inform our valued customers and the general public that our Boeing 737-300 is grounded due to unscheduled maintenance on one of its engines, a development which was discovered when the aircraft had gone for its normal routine checks in Johannesburg. We have grounded our aircraft because safety is our number one priority. Meanwhile all the passengers that are affected by this development are being rerouted on partner airlines. Efforts are also underway to charter aircraft from other airlines so that normal flight operations can continue. We would like to assure the general public and our valued customers that this situation will be resolved as soon as possible. We promise to keep the public and especially passengers updated on all developments concerning our aircraft and flight operations. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused to our passengers. Management.

Is there no more information??
Out here the rumor is that both planes got off the ground but now one is grounded again.
Other rumors, not sure if these are plausible, what do you think?
The pilots are radioing air kenya pilots for information.
The pilots are using their own hand held GPS machines.
What do you think??
