I would like to have some pics of the phenomena of static discharges that reportedly run on the fanblades and are sometimes visible in darkness when a fan engine is running.
Any cue or URL?
Tks

Er - strange request - why? - is this going to end up as some strange phenomena being linked to a recent aviation incident?

Yours equally as curious...

p.s. VJ get a few snaps for me, I could do with some examples for my students

No, likewise, just curious.
Did see some of it sometime ago however, but that was when flying near static loaded clouds, a bit too cold to get outside for pics
I contribute that to St Elmo's fire though.
But I never realised these fanblades offload static themselves, running on the ground.

I know (own experience) that you can sometimes see sparks in the fan-area of an engine running on ground...
But it is no static discharge. :=
You only see the sparks when sucked in sand hit the fan. ;)

Oh I dunno! I've seen sparks when the blade tips have started to grind out the attrition liner:suspect::E:E
