View Full Version : Clinical Trials - OK with the medical??

I am currently saving to eventually start my commercial pilot training. As part of my savings I have done a number of medical trials which have all been approved by the Independent Ethics Committee and are completed at a registered clinical research unit in Manchester (UK).

Can anyone confirm that having done these trials (and doing any future trials) will not compromise my chances of passing the CAA medical due to trials I may previously have done.

My concerns are not that any previous trials will have affected my physical wellbeing but if it was on my medical record and would discount me from eventually becoming a pilot.

Cheers.

p.s. I have emailed the CAA about this but have not heard anything back from them as yet.

Wouldn't have thought it'd be a problem, unless the drugs were used to treat an underlying existing condition.

Be interesting to see what the caa say, keep us updated.

Will keep you updated about the reply though.

I received a letter today regarding my taking part in clinical trials.

In a nut shell that have said that they are unable to confirm that this will not compromise my chances of paasing the initial and subsequent JAA class 1 medical examination.

They follow to say:

If you wish to be considered for initial JAA class 1 medical certification, please arrange for us to receive details of the trail protocols from the reserach unit involved in each trial.

I am now going to get on to Medeval in Manchester and get them to pull up all the study notes of the trial I previously did and then obviously ship it off to the CAA.

I am pretty sure that it won't compromise my chances of ever passing a medical but I guess that the CAA are just covering their backs for the mean time and want to see all the evidence of what happened in the trails before saying "yes you would definatly pass" which seems fair.

I again will update this thread when I get a 2nd response so anyone searching for this topic or related topics will get relevant information.
