Crikey, that was quick. I thought it was only confirmed within the last two weeks. Obviously it has been on the cards for a long time for them to close so quicky. Looks like Circusair will be handling my luggage next week . Aren't they the only handlig agent left now? Have there been any other handling agents at MME in the past?

So are bmi handled by Servisair now?

We have been told that Aviance are still there until the end of the month, and they're still answering their telephones so I guess that is correct! I believe though that the pushbacks, etc are now being done with Servisair tugs.

Did Aviance know something ? Uncertainty of bmi post summer 08 ? lack of Globespan for the winter ?
We've had dealings with both Aviance and Servisair at MME and their was no comparison. Aviance had a can do mentallity, whereas Servisair could'nt care less. A well run operation in my eyes, just a shame it was Aviance that moved out but obviously there is'nt enough work for two h/a's to make it viable (which must be attributable to the airport for not getting the business in ?). Good luck to all the Aviance staff.

I thought it was Servisair that had been closing various bases around the country? Aviance were definitely the better handling agent, but I just don't understand why they've gone - they've survived here for years with a lot less business than what they have now?

HD. Thought you'd be more clued up if you work at MME. Aviance are no more. The staff may still be operating from their old offices hence you may for logistics reasons have to use the same telephone no.s etc. but try ringing any of the available no.s for Aviance and you'll hear "Hello Servisair". Good luck to all the cheerful ex-Aviance staff when the Circusair staff cull begins!

So how do bmi, flyglobespan etc feel about this? If they had a special deal with Aviance, will Servisair have taken this deal on or will they have had to just go with what Servisair charge, seen as though they have no choice?

I would very much doubt how well run the Aviance operation was, had anything to do with their withdrawal. := I'm speculating this was down to pure economics and the bigger picture of business. One could have the best run business but if it is'nt making money and no foreseeable upturn, then why continue ? With question marks hanging over bmi and Globespan, what have they left post summer 08 ? Eastern ? As I mentioned above, Aviance may already know some of the answers, hence they decided to go sooner rather than later. That's business for you.
Again, I feel for the Aviance staff; a really friendly and helpful bunch and hope they can move on to new beginings, or show the Servisair staff how it should be done. :D

I too would be interested to know how BD & T3 felt about changing to Servisair - particularly BD.

Many of the Aviance staff were ex-BD and had been there for a long time - some as long as about 25 years. It would be a shame to see them leave but at the same time a shame to see them transfer to the company that was the competition for all those years, without any other options at MME.

Well I hope whatever happenned with the Aviance staff that they are doing okay. BD/Aviance were definately a professional and close-knit operation over the years and I am proud to be able to have worked with them.

Good luck to all of you!

>Many of the Aviance staff were ex-BD and had been there for a long time - some as long as about 25 years.

Very sad to hear this, having worked there for Midland '83-'85. It was always a well-run base.

Teesside probably owes it's success to BD.

I wish all of the staff well.
