Gents,
I am a military heavy turboprop type chap who has just messed up on the BA assessment day (3000 hours, various types, ATPL by July), trying to get some info to make some balanced decisions. I am trying to get the best info on who is recruiting in the next 12 months and roughly what their FO starting wages are. Anything considered but Heathrow, Gatwick, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, E.Mids, Birmingham, Leeds Brads, Newquay of particular interest. New to the Prune so all advice (probably) gratefully received.

Think about Flybe with Tprop hours like that they will jump at you. Quite a few ex RAF heavy Tprop pilots working with them. As for the pay not the best in the business but with those hours you could be in the LHS before long.

They are currently recruiting and some of the bases fit your bill. They are a good start within the Civvi Airline business.

Cheers for the reply, much appreciated. Know of a couple of similarly placed chaps who have gone the Flybe route with success. Of definite interest. Any rough idea of starting wage(must keep the lady in the manner to which she is accustomed)/recruitment at the mo.

As of FY 2008/2009 I think a year 0 FO will earn around £24,800 add to that your duty pay and you should receive around £29,000 before tax. But remember I don't think you will stay an FO for too long year 0 Captains are on around £54,000.

When it comes to Tprops no one pays as well as Flybe within the UK or seems to have as many regional bases.

easyJet have a need for 100's of new pilots from later this year onwards into the future. Bases: Gatwick (Big!), Luton, Stansted, Bristol, East Midlands, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and on the continent, Madrid, Milan, Berlin, Dortmund, Paris, Lyon with more to come in the future, no doubt.

Flybe possibly won't give you a base of choice on starting.

Flybe have a seniority list for upgrades to Left Seat so the transition may take a while.

Reddo has the best advice, try Netjets a much better option.

I wasn't aware of any seniority list at Flybe for upgrade. Indeed their people say it is purely on merit once the minimum qualifications are met. And I'm sure74247 would see 6 months in the RHS then move to the other side with his experience.

GSS are in an almost permanent state of hiring.

The good news:

1 They do take on people without any Jet time
2 Stansted base
3 B747-400F
4 Generally very good bunch to work with

The bad news

1 Starting pay poor for the type of lifestyle
2 18 days away from home a month
3 Very Very Very long time to command (if the company keeps going)

It is very much a seniority and bid system in use. However most, if not all , of the experience within has been tapped for command.

Billabong - almost correct. Although GSS's adverts state only a preference for jet time, their CTC insists upon it, and he selects who will/won't be considered. Although this policy has bit them on the backside several times I don't think it is likely to change any time soon, even though the type of people they want just won't accept those Ts & Cs.

74247 - I don't know of a time during the last 5 years when Flybe have NOT required direct entry Captains, and many have come from the same stable as yourself, but obviously in possession of a full ATPL.

NetJets is proving to be very popular with ex RAF bods. You can live where you want (within reason) and the flying is always interesting. They will probably follow up any application made by you in a short space of time.

Depends what you want out of life. If you want to be home every night then the likes of FlyBe, Easy and Jet2 are better bets but NetJets probably resembles the lifestyle that you are used to in the RAF!
