EVA has gotten and is still getting 777-300ER to replace the 747 as passenger jets. Its correct to re-allocate the fleet to match needs. Times could be a bit tough in TAiwan in the air transport business right now. Far Eastern has applied for bankruptcy protection a few days ago. EVA is running in the red again. CAL is still profitable it seems.

Its a tough business and a smart airline shuffles the cards for a better hand.

any idea on the status of EVA air's fleet? Is Far Eastern really closing up shop?

Far Eastern is not going under as yet. Just declaring bankruptcy to keep the creditors at bay. Operating as usual so far. Demanding government bailout . CAL asked to bail them out and take a share.

They owe a bit of cash it seems:

TAiwanese Airlines are all kind of married to each other. FAT's troubles could signal problems at EVA and CAL too. Seems currently FAT is having trouble even putting together ntd 5000 processing fee for financial restructuring.
