Gents,

I'm considering upgrading from 1Mbps to 2Mbps, as I download lots of files, have the internet linked to my Satellite decoder, the Missus use Wi-fi and I want to improve my VOIP quality. Will increasing my bandwidth as above make a drastic difference?

Thanks for your replies :E

Keith

The first thing to do is find someone else that has the upgraded package on the same internet provider. Get them to use a bandwidth tool to see what they are actually getting as "up to...." is always the terms and conditions.. so if you find they regularly do not get "up to" then don't bother.

Don't forget it is always the slowest link in the chain anyway, so although you may get a lot up to the ISP's router, where they link in makes all the difference.

I'm on 6 Mps, but rarely get more than 2.5. It all depends on distance from exchange, quality of your line and the dreaded 'contention ratio'.

All the peeps that have ever spoken to me say that one meg is adequate.

Hi! Keith , You might want to use the foll.links to check the actual download/upload speeds

And www.thinkbroadband.com (http://www.thinkbroadband.com)

It is more than a speed measuring service but includes a means of logging your speeds over time. There is a forum and you can compare other ISP.

Thanks for all the replies Gents,

I live in DXB and we're restricted to only ONE provider. Bummer...

Does anyone in the UAE use higher than 1Mbps and have any thoughts please?

Thanks once again everyone
