I'm trying to get in with an Air National Guard unit in the US. I have about 2700hrs and flying for Republic Air Holdings on the ERJ-145. Does anyone have any insight on how to get into a unit? Do letters of rec. help if from senators etc?

Assuming you are in Del Rio, Texas here is a good resource.

Letters of recommendation always help. Recommendations from within the unit are particularly good. Direct contact with the unit you would like to join, preferably in person, is the single most useful thing you can do.

Good luck.

I don't currently live Del Rio anymore. I'll change that. I'm still in Texas closer to Houston. I've looked into most the units but they appear to want instructor pilots who have already completed UPT. I haven't done that. I'm not too worried about the unit location as I currently fly for the airlines and I can travel anywhere I'd like.
