Hello All. Forgive my ignorance but.....
When I download little movies I've made with my camera and then try and play them with Windows Media player it doesnt work. Says something about .mov etc. When they download onto the computer they come up as Quicktime movies-which can open and play them OK. Any ideas? Is it something I need to change on the camera?
Many thanks.

.mov is indeed a Quicktime format, and as such it is played by Quicktime rather than Windows Media Player. It's possible to convert the file to a format supported by WMP once it's copied to the computer using various free and non-free tools.

I believe WMP 11 can play some .mov files, not so sure though, and even if it can, a plug in needs to be added, or a codec pack.
(Never tried messing around with any of that.)
The Windows installation usually comes with Apple's Quicktime player, which can play these, but I find it's a right royal PITA, demanding connection, supplying info/update and advertising pages, literally hijacking the browser.
Google around (or look through the free programs sticky) for a good alternative.

VLC media player lists .mov files on its features page (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html)
It's freeware, and seems to play almost anything.

Yup, TFP, VLC will play almost anything. I've also found it to be very stable, etc, too. A good option

Also Quicktime alternative, same as Quicktime but without all the crap that jams up the computer.
