I recently read that Air Canada CRJ's cannot fly out of Yellowknife, NWT because of a -40C temperature limit. What is the reason for this restriction?

Thanks

Norm

I might be off track here but I think that Canadair CRJs have recently experienced some flap problems in extremely cold temps. Perhaps Canadair has issued an advisory whilst these incidents are being investigated.

It may be a broader issue than flaps, because apparently their Embraer 190s have the same -40C restriction.

Norm, it's always subject to the moderators' whim of the day (i.e. their interpretation of where such a post should reside), but perhaps you should try posting your query in the "North America" or "Tech Log" forum. You might get an answer from a CRJ driver from those parts.
