I picked up a plane at Marana yesterday and was surprised to see so many freighters in storage. Four LH B-747-200's are pickled, two B-747-300 combi's were bought by UAL for the engines and now sit pickled, a China Airlines B-747-200 freighter had arrived and is to be cut up, plus many others. For you photo types, one of the C-130's has fresh Evergreen paint (N130EV) and is scheduled to fly up to the museum this week.

Have you ever heard about Cactus Wings ? It's a website where a few folks list all the aircraft "stored" in Arizona, it's pretty amazing... and updated !. . <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

Zoner. .Your comments about UAL are interesting !. .I was recently in Victorville CA and UAL flew in several B747-400 aircraft for parking. The first thing they did was remove all the engines and send them out. The story was that they were being leased to Singapore Airlines !!

The main reason UAL are parking their 747-400's is, according to those that have inside info at UAL...the 777 eats it for lunch, operationally, cost wise. 14 parked so far.

One of the rampers told me that most airlines are not overhauling their engines these days. Because so many aircraft are parked it is now much cheaper to buy used engines than to overhaul.
