Brazzaville. The pilot and copilot of an Antonov 12 were badly hurt Friday when the brakes failed on their cargo plane at Congo's Pointe-Noire airport and it rammed a Boeing 727, an airport official said, cite dby AFP.
The Antonov had landed and was heading off the runway into a parking bay when the brakes failed, apparently because of an electrical problem, the official told AFP, asking not to be named.
The two flight crew were seriously injured and have taken to hospital in the country's economic capital on the Atlantic coast. Both aircraft also sustained considerable damage, the source said.

Now before you all jump on me for speculation on possible causes, here is probably a classic example for the reasons not to taxi fast, as you see so often in "master" countries of Europe.

Brakes do fail! Electric or others.

They had performed 1 miss approach before.
In addition, 3 propellers were feathered.

I didn't know that the AN-12 was a jet... you larn something new every day.

I don't think they had three props feathered as at least 2 were powered when they hit.

I don't know anything about AN-12s, and don't particularly want to, but don't they have the basic controls like reverse thrust or nose wheel steering?

An-12's usually taxi on one donkey, always the same one as well. Don't know about the brakes and reverse, but one engine taxi sounds about correct.

Looks like the 727 was not going anywhere by the angle of the nose wheel....or maybe that's standard DRC parking ops like taxing on one engine...when I was in DRC, they even shut the two inboards down before leaving the runway and throwing the chickens and parrots out...I bet the chaps with their plastic packets were there to collect any dripping fuel....:hmm:

There is no revers thrust on AN-12 and it has nose wheel steering.
An 12 considered as one of the strong controlled aircraft (among soviets) - it means if pilot is able to handle this one that he will fly any other (soviets).
P.S. I have 400 hours experience on AN-12
