Howdy, not sure if this is the right forum however...
Does anyone out there know if Virgin have on-demand seat back tvs yet for the LHR-HKG route? I am flying out at the end of Feb and website states that on-demand is being rolled out across the fleet. Has the rolling finished yet?
Thanks in advance!

All A340-600s (which you should/will be on) have PTVs I believe.

Thanks for the reply - i was aware that all had seat back tvs... it was the on-demand part that i was trying to find out about. A bit picky i know! Any thoughts/knowledge?
Cheers

VS, along with all the other main carriers are piling this equipment into a/c as fast as they can. Just bear in mind that all suppliers are experiencing reliability problems with this technology.

When it's running - everyone is happy. We have heard some horror stories in this forum about systems not working or failing halfway through the flight. On one trip of mine last year, it took them an hour to get the system to operate and some folks were rather tetchy about it. I was listening to my Walkman and reading a magazine, so I did not mind. If travelling with small people, always have additional distraction material to hand!

Yeh,
I always carry my Ipod on a flight and quite often my laptop.. just in case the system goes down.
Even then I normally always have a book with me... I often only end up using the system for an hour - two hours max.

Don't like looking at a little screen right in front of me for too long =)

And remember - when it does go down, don't just sit there meekly hoping it will fix it self and not wanting to cause any fuss. The CC can reboot the system at individual seats, which often solves the problem.

I think I'm right in saying all of the LHR based aircraft are on-demand PTV's (called v-port). The LGW aircraft have PTV's but its not on demand.

All the LHR A340-600's and B747-400's have V:Port (except the 747-400 operating to BGI at the moment which is from the LGW fleet), but non of the A340-300's and non of the LGW based a/c do.

The A340-300's at LHR and the ex-LHR 747-400's that are now in the LGW fleet, G-VAST, G-VXLG and G-VTOP have the second best system, Odyssey which was the forerunner to the V:Port system and has much the same functions except it isn't AVOD and a slightly less choice of entertainment, but is has games too.

The 5 Alitalia built 747-400's in the LGW fleet, G-VGAL, G-VLIP, G-VROM, G-VROS and G-VROY all have the Super Nova system, which is the worst system VS have, it has movies, tv shows and music but no games and is not AVOD.

Hope that helps.

At the end of the day does it really matter? :)

I fly with many airlines... whcih vary from great on demand systems like Qantas to not very good systems like I believe on a Delta flight last year... which for a long haul to Cincinati from UK only had screens in the middle of the cabin..
I never really use the systems much... and if there isn't one available I just chill out, read a book and get some sleep...

Also do find it a bit annoying how some people insit on having their headphone volume REALLY loud so you can hear it a couple of rows back.... some people are trying to sleep :*

You ARE a spotter though

Now that is slander I'll have you know !!!. :*

I have never in my life kept a log of aircraft registrations, which is what "spotters" normally do i.e. train spotters, bus spotters, plane spotters etc. :=

I myself am more of an Aviation Enthusiast, I like watching planes and take the occasional picture now and again, but I DO NOT keep a little notebook of registrations therefore I am not a spotter - one BA 747 is the same as another as far as I'm concerned !!!.

And you my ginger testicled friend probably spend more time watching planes than I lately from your strategically placed office !!!.

Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll be flying them too - well bigger ones than at the moment !!!.

Ah Leezyjet.......

Surely only slanderous if not true :}. You are right of course. I do have a rather good vantage point.

I managed to get that rego number you were looking for to complete your set. Will let you have it........

PS, wont have that vantage point for much longer.

The one I'm worried about is Wycombe with his:Air New Zealand have AVOD in all classes on the 744 LHR-HKG as wellThat just smacks of having spent waaaay too much time studying the 'Our Fleet' pages of their website to match up with his pocket book. :} Not to mention his enthusiasm for promoting NZ in a VS thread. All highly incriminating. :p
