QANTASLINK has cut back services to Armidale due to "pilot shortages".

No official press release yet, but heard Armidale Council discussing the cancelling of services on the ABC radio this morning.

Anyone got any more info.

QantasLink is cancelling six flights between Armidale and Sydney.

The changes will come into affect from next week for three return flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

The member for the Northern Tablelands, Richard Torbay, says the loss of between 200 and 300 seats each week will have an impact on the region.

I bet they will find the necessary pilots and re-start those runs if they can substantially increase fares.

Contract jobs in Europe for EUR $159 000 a year for Dash 400 drivers. One way to solve problem is contract pilots from O/S , US $12000 a month + car + accomadation and bonus at end of contract. If your in Eastern now , then your time is coming to ask for some more money. The worm is turning. :D

.......all this means is that the airlines will learn/suffer, the hard way & at the commuters expense! It is indeed a shame that we must go thru this when there is a long term answer, employ enough pilots (which there are plenty) to fill the tasks set by the company in the first place!

This situation is a result of crew displacement to allow training onto the Q400. Additional Q400 services initially will reduce crew available to other routes, so Jetstar are taking on those routes during the training period.

I could provide my view on the wisdom of that particular decision, but I suspect it's the subject of another thread somewhere.
