Spent an interesting hour with an ent bloke-who was keen to spread the word to the masses.

Not sure how much was based on evidence but here were a few of his thoughts re: blocked noses, a common problem for some pilots.

First thing, have a quck examie your nose for obvious obstructions (eg polyps).

-the nose is life's air filter-try and flush it out by applying a spray of isotonic saline each night. (Available from the pharmacist- has to be isotonic)

-initially, treat with steroid drops. For them to be effective, insertion has to be made lying down. If you can taste the drops, they're going in the wrong place

If resoluton occurs, continue with steroid spray (less of the drug is absorbed in the body).

No resolution may indicate obstruction "further up" and a specialist opinion may be required.

Always seek medical advice before shoving anything up your nose.

Happy summer flying:)
