From yesterdays Speednews

IAI BEDEK AVIATION has ABX Air contract to convert five 767-200s to Special Freighters (includes side cargo door)
for delivery starting early '04, plus undisclosed options; ABX operates 20 767PCs that load through standard pax door

how do you load a 767 with cargo, through a pax door?

Boing boy...

Airborne Express in US has been using B767-200 in pure freight configuration for last 3-5 years. On thing in common with all these aircraft is thet there is NO CARGO DOOR in any of them.
They use a pallet that fits through the main doors. System has worked well with them.

Cheers

Actually ABX has been doing this from Day 1.
All their DC9 and DC8 were also loaded through standard pax doors.
The original idea used the trolleys that they used in hospitals for collecting the dirty linen.
It is a tube frames with wheels and a bag slung between the two sides of the frame. It was just wide enough to go through the pax door.
