Hello

What do you all make of this Open skies business?

Do you think it will benefit us (Cabin Crew) in some way?

My biggest concern is that airlines, in their quest for market share, will lower airfares, trying to drive each other out of business. Or am I being an alarmist here? I fear it will be a "dog's world" out there.

It would be nice to read a more positive outlook on this matter.

Please post your point of view.

Cheers

I fear you are correct, more competition, lower fares, high fuel costs leads to reduced wages for CC and all in the industry. The positive bit may mean more jobs. For BA and their A380's (x12) it will require 7500 CC to operate those aircraft alone.

Are you sure about those numbers? We only need 11000 crew to operate a fleet of 60 747s, 60 777s and 10ish 767s.

That is the figure quoted by the CBT number crunchers. I thought that the overall figure was nearer 14000 now or that may be the desired total wished for.

The total is 14000, but 3000 are shorthaul. If the number crunchers think they need 7500 crew for 12 A380's no wonder they're so useless at manpower planning. Even if we put 25 cabin crew on a 380 thats still 25 crews per aircraft. Absolutely ridiculous and no doubt they'll be slapped down soon by someone who actually knows something about crewing.:ugh:
