Slow news day Fixit?

No, he speaketh the truth.

VH-OGD had engine failure on take-off/initial climb and had an air-turnback to Perth on Monday evening. Debris from engine damaged the inboard aileron immediately behind. Engine and aileron to be changed. New engine taken to Perth from Sydney on 747 freighter tuesday.

Qantas at the moment doing all possible to keep these more and more common incidents hushed-up. Therefore no press releases, passengers hushed, all swept quietely under the carpet.

The information I have is that there was no 'failure' as such. Aircraft returned with high engine vibration. I don't know whether they shut it down on the way back or whether they came back with the engine running at idle.

Given the dispute with it's engineers no wonder they are hushing it up.

Shades of between a rock and a hard place.

As Big M described with engine at idle on the return. Heard a "buzzing" noise associated with higher vib. On thrust lever reduction noise and vib went away. Know this because we had a couple of quiet ales with the crew at the hotel a couple of hours later. Engr next day confirmed damage.

mr fixit you are correct..... on sunday evening vh-ogd a qf 767 suffered a turbine blade failure... the pilot reported 5 units of vibration and vibration felt through the cabin, this all went away once the throttles were retarded. On return to perth a subsequent inspection of the final turbine stage revieled quite a mess in the tail end of the engine and of course a nice hole in the inboard aileron..... So thats that,,,, not really worth a mention here...... Take a long hard look at yourselves boys:8,,,, You could have left that engine to the perth boys and girl..... the job would have got done, but the extra week of ground time just might have alerted someone to the need for more manpower at this undermanned station!!!! JUST REMEMBER BOYS YOU HAD A CHOICE TO SAY NO!!!! JUST LIKE OTHERS HAVE THE CHOICE NOT TO TREAT YOU WITH RESPECT :mad:ANYMORE........

TAKE 5 TO SURVIVE!!!!

To quote 732rule, I imagine that the moderators of this board should take a look at this person, name calling, atagonistic behaviour is not called for and I suggest he should be pulled aside for a discussion.

What about it powers to be...?

(quote) When are you overprotected, jumped up, holier than thou Lame's at QF going to realise that the days of 45 Lame's per steam driven 737 or 767 are dead and burried... What airline can hope to sustain growth when you leaches are trying to squeeze every last dollar out of your company for services that any MRO could provide for a 1/10 of the price you prima donnas are expected to be paid.. For **** sake, get real...
For God sake, it does not take a Lame to turn around a 737/767.. A bag chucker can do that... One normal MRO Lame can look after the line in PER... Where do you guys get off holding QF to ransom... Get real and let go of your pie in the sky dreams... You guys are a lost cause and the sooner you realise it the better it will be for the travelling public in Australia.. Viva the new world dream.. Viva the new QF... Oh and by the way, the ALAEA (lost cause) are only after one thing.. Self preservation.. Tossers....
Bye.... (quote)

The Mr Fixit
15th Jan 2008, 23:01
Yes I believe they did, sources are sketchy but it is told to be an A330 crew which the ALAEA just helped out.

If indeed true :*

HOW QUICKLY THEY FORGET, !!!!

So they couldn't find an excuse during school holidays to spend more time with their children? Shame Shame Shame.
I would have thought that as evryone is at work at the moment due to all leave being cancelled that sending a crew from sydney to change an engine would not be required.
How short staffed are they?

Oooooh do I have a doesy

Got a call from an old mate who was sitting on a QF A/C at Syd terminal "I'm stuck at the terminal waiting for the Ginger Beer to do some checks" Kool I thought the guys are TAKING 5

But no it seems the skipper was concerned about a blocked drain affecting his drip tray so MW said. I asked was an inspection carried out but the reply was stone dead cold

ARE WE SAYING THE B767 HAVE CRACKED DRIP TRAYS TOO !!!!!!

Anyone anyone Bueller Bueller ?????

blocked drains on the (767 RR particularly) does happen a lot and one or two in the ZX series seem to be more prone than others. - typically the a/c develop the problem then run around for (up to) a week or so with waste water building up before the stinking brown sludge then sloshes out on rotation and TOD making a mess of the cabin and finding its way into spaces where water shouldn't be.

I think the a/c you are talking about was XG that ran for almost three days with blocked drains and was kept in service as it needed >12 hours to rectify. The incoming crew in SYD quite rightly requested the Capt call for the a/c to be checked. (3 of the crew were on XC late last year when 'moisture' was found in the avionics bay after two sectors with Noah-like flooding from the drains - the wayward 'moisture' was only discovered when one of the Eng's did a great job by looking beyond the immediate problem and again proved why we need the best of the best signing out the a/c.)

Word just in

OGN cracked Electronic Protection Plate (Drip Shield)

So it begins again, my applauds and respect to both Captain and Engineer who dedication to AIR SAFETY has possibly avoided another, as QF puts it, 'Serious Incident' :D

Do the 767 and 747 have similar drain systems and E&E arrangments ?

If so what is boeing doing about it ?

Short_Circuit
18th Jan 2008, 23:36
Same / same, however 767 has drip shields are sealed fwd & aft ends (no chance of splash out on T/O or TOD) where 747 are open all around.

thank you to my colleagues who dilligently do their best to ensure the aircraft are a safe as possible.

We are the thing holding this cost driven operationally disfunctional "organisation" together.

Until operational people have control of operational decisions we remain the last link.

Pick any senior executive at QF..
Do any of them have any engineering/flying background.......?

I'd hate to sound like a stooge, but how many pilots and engineers know how to run a business ? That would be the thinking of those who employ the upper managers.

They know how to manage their respective areas keeping most happy and morale relatively high, but they aren't the slash and burn mechanics employed to strips the guts out of Qantas, as is the current agenda.
