View Full Version : HAI Heli Expo - Who's going?

Capt Hollywood

I'm thinking of heading over to the HAI Heli expo in Houston as our 130 will be out of action having an autopilot installed. Any other Ppruners attending this event?

It's a pity the shortsighted financiers shut down the old R88 program, with such an accelerated design program it could have been flying at the expo! :ok:

Sigh:hmm:

I just don't know what other aircraft is going to be able to meet the requirements that I needed, like the R88 could provide.
:{
Cap'n, what do you suggest?

I am sure you are as devastated as we all are by the 88's shut downed development.

Do we have any last pictures of the Capra aegagrus hircus?:8

I suppose Sikorsky is always an alternative?

Heli_Man,

Welcome to Rotorheads: not a bad first post, but that isn't the prototype of Capt Hollywood's R88, is it ;)

Thanks SP,
and no, my machine is leaps and bounds ahead of the Hollywood R88 project.
I plan to be fitting it out with quite a few mod cons this year too which will keep it on the cutting edge. Will keep you posted.

Cheers :)

I can not make it but---

If you agree with the idea---

Could every Helicopter pilot going by the Garmin Booth ask them why they can't modify the 400 / 500 series so that we can upload userwaypoints into them from a laptop using Garmin Mapsource!

It would be so much simpler and easier than sitting in the cockpit for 4 or 5hours entering 100+ rig positions.

The industry uses a lot of 400 / 500 series Garmins so we are a large customer base.
When I asked the question during a phone call to Garmin on another matter they told me no one had ever asked for this feature.
Perhaps if enough people ask the question.

It would surely help them sell more units and Mapsource products.

It is doable with their portable aviation units so why not with the big $ product.

I love the 530 so mean no harm - it would just be a nice feature. Garmin already has the technology.

Very usefull in offshore onshore oil and Gas, siesmic, fire fighting, lumber, ambulance and other jobs.

Imagine how usefull it would be in the event of disaster - arrive - download all the imortant waypoints from the people in charge and go to work. Downloading Garmin TOPO maps would be great also.
Perhaps Homeland Security or FEMA would fund it! (Joke)

Whos going and where is the get together for Prune eaters. SaSless, you going??
Searched on the forum but seems no thread yet on this. Time to make plans before the prices get overly ridiculous.
Ok Search tool needed some extra words etc...Anyway now that that is over.
Rooms can be found but not within walking distance. I got a rental car. Try www.hamptoninns.com (http://www.hamptoninns.com) Busy week for Conventions so Houston is going to bleed you for everything.

The Party is Where? When?? and Ned is buying Beer..........:D

Good luck with the hotel rooms if you don't already have one booked. There are two other conventions in Houston at the same time. I know a few folks that were having a hard time finding a place to stay.

If you are trying to stay close to the convention center, hotels are always a problem. If you stay a little further out, they are not a problem. I have gotten a room down by Hobby Airport. A 20 minute or so drive to the Convention center. Besides it gives me a chance to pick up Kolaches.

Have they found a cure for Kolaches yet?

Most people do their utmost to avoid catching it!

See you all there.

That place with the multitude of brews on tap is called "The Flying Saucer." If the one in Houston is like others I have been to, there are plenty of nice looking birds wearing Catholic school girl skirts serving the brew.

I'll be there for sure! :ok:

Just back form the Flying Saucer, about the only place worth going to in downtown. Short skirts, big 's, wall of beer, Corner of Main and Capital. Oddest downtown I have ever visited. The downtown shuts down at 6pm. Enjoy, see ya there!

Went out to dinner at Morton's steakhouse, nearly finished a 48oz steak! Then checked out the Flying Saucer for a few beers after the cabbie finally found it! Enjoying the show so far, lots of ideas for the next machine we purchase!
