HK Citizen

I am currently living Canada and I am a Hong Kong citizen and will apply for CX in a year. Also, my friend would also like to come with me to apply for CX but he isn't a HK citizen. Is HK citizenship required to apply for CX?

All you need is a HK ID I think. I applied with only a work permit and got an interview.

It says you need to be HK resident, but MidgetBoy said that he only applied with a work permit and got an interview?

How exactly does this work? I'm confused...

Since we have no idea what kind of permit MidgetBoy have, it would be best to assume that your friend doesn't meet the requirement for the cadet pilot program. There's really nothing to be confused about, either you meet the requirements or you don't. Of course your friend could apply for direct entry as the company would support a work permit application in and only in HK.

Read the requirements carefully, it states specifically that "To qualify for our Cadet Pilot Programme, you must be at least 18 years old and a Hong Kong resident."

A working permit means I can reside and work in HK indefinitely. Therefore I am a resident.
I think they sort of imply that as long as you can work in Hong Kong without having any problems of getting kicked out (besides if you do something stupid), then you're fine.
Not to mention, my HK ID says you have to be over 18 to get it, so the age req is covered for applying to Cx as long as you have the HK id.

My parents were both born in HK but I was born in Canada, I also didn't have proof that I've gone back before 97 besides a picture I have with me wearing a Cx Captain's hat in the cockpit =P

I believe what MidgetBoy has is the "Right To Land" identity card (as opposed to the Right of Abode Permanent identity card that CX used to require).
One important distinction, with the RTL card, you can be deported from HK...

I do not know if you're classed as a HK Resident (with ID card) if you're not a ROA or RTL holder, contact the HK immigration dept and then CX to see if you're eligible.

so how old are you right now? and how old were you when you applied for the working visa to go to HK?

since CX will call you for interview after you submit your applications, how did you get a working visa? doesn't CX must offer you a job before you can apply for HK visa?

Well MidgetBoy can easily convert to ROA when he lived in HK for 7 consecutive years. However, would the ROA status be revoked should you move back to Canada again? I know mine will never be revoked since I was born in HK.

If one attains ROA by living 7 consecutive years in HK, then cannot be outside the HKSAR for over 36 months. So, if you do move overseas, just make sure to visit HK for a day every three years. If that passes, your ROA status becomes RTL which does not expire. That being said, if you were born in HK, I don't think you can lose your ROA. Prior to 1997, I held ROA but failed to travel back within 36 months and now I hold RTL. Not a big deal since you can still work/live in HK, though it used to be an issue with the CX CPP...
