Hello Guys and Girls
This one is bugging me :ugh:
On a chart , meridians at 43 N are shown at 10 degrees apart this is shown on the chart by a distance of 14cms. What is the scale? This is the question verbatim. I've tried almost everything to get to the answer (1:6000000) but have failed miserably.
Someone put me out of my misery!:)

Hi Bullocks,

Its been a year and a half since I did my groundschool but here goes:

Scale = Chart Length (CL) / Distance

D (Scale-1) = Distance / CL

Distance = Departure = 10 x 60 x cos 43 = 438.8nm

Therefore, D = 438.8nm / 14cm = 812680.2332m / 14cm = 5804859

Scale = 1:5804859

Is this the closest answer to 1:6000000? Like I say, its been a while.

Hope this helps.

Thats very much appreciated:D Thank you, I figured it had something to do with the cos function but I'd been studying all day and my brain was mush!
Thanks again
